Griffith F. Pitcher of Smyrna, Georgia, passed away on April 23, 2013 after a short illness. He is the son of the late Virginia Griffith Stein Pitcher and William Henry Pitcher of Baltimore, Maryland and Winter Park, Florida, and grandson of the late Judge Charles F. Stein of Baltimore. He graduated from the Calvert School, the Gilman School and Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and the University Of Virginia School Of Law where he was a member of the Law Review. He had been practicing tax and bond law since 1963, most recently with Seyfarth Shaw LLP in Atlanta. Grif Pitcher had been an ACBC Fellow since 1995 and was affiliated with the American College of Bond Counsel (Founding Fellow, Past Treasurer, Director, and Website Editor); National Association of Bond Lawyers (served twice on Steering Committee); American Bar Association; The Florida Bar, Georgia State Bar and Alabama Bar (inactive). Honors include the: Carlson Prize awarded by NABL for most scholarly article in The Bond Lawyer in the year 2000 and Order of the Coif. He was listed Oxford’s Who’s Who; and Marquis, Who’s Who in America Law, Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in the World. He has published extensively on municipal finance, bond law and tax issues, and was a frequent speaker/panelist on programs sponsored by the: National Association of Bond Lawyers (Bond Attorneys Workshop Faculty for 22 years); The Bond Attorney’s Winter Workshop; Florida League of Cities and other associations for government officials, as well as The Florida Bar and Alabama State Bar. Grif is survived by his wife Donna Walker Pitcher; the four children from his first marriage: Virginia Tyson Ballinger (Randall); Lawrence Brooke Fick (Mark); William Terry Badham Pitcher (FangXing), and Margaret Wadsworth Nichols (Stanley); eight grandchildren: R. Allen Ballinger (Brooke), Nina Kyle Ballinger; Walker Badham Fick; Virginia Lawrence Fick; Jessica Rose Lombino; Thomas A. Lombino, Jr.; Mary Kaitlin Saylors, and William Alexander Griffith Pitcher; and his step daughter, Pamela Pinkard and her fiancé, James Kelly, his sister Lawrence Platt Hall; and his cousin Alexandra Stein Kouwenhoven. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel at Carmichael Funeral Home, 2950 King Street, NE; Smyrna, Georgia on Saturday June 15 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, his wife and family request donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
