ATLANTA — Georgia has unveiled new rules banning references to guns, drugs and alcohol on personalized license plates.

The new rules, which won’t become final until after July 9, also ban profanity, any references to sex, items subject to trademark or copyright; references to crimes and all variations of the word “hate.”

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Thursday that the rules were developed in response to a lawsuit by a motorist. James Cyrus Gilbert had requested a tag spelling out GAYGUY, which was denied under the old rules. He argued the state was denying his right to free speech and was violating federal and state constitutions.

Gilbert will soon be able to pick up a plate reading “GAYPWR,” and has won an undisclosed amount of money in the settlement which will be earmarked for legal fees.

“It’s the right result,” his attorney Cynthia Counts told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “The state did the right thing.”

The new “emergency” rules are supposed to clarify things. However, state officials Wednesday would not address specific examples of words that would pass or fail under the new rules.

However under the new rule, license plates that reference weapons — which were allowed before — will be banned. The new rule calls for state officials to keep a list of banned plates and update it at least once a year.

"License plates that reference weapons — which were allowed before — will be banned"

Now even the State of Georgia is attacking our second amendment rights along with our first amendment rights?!?! I am not surprised about the first amendment attack from Georgia, but they're attacking the second amendment now? Really?

It's going to be fun watching the NRA and ACLU work together to fight the State of Georgia, owned and operated (supposedly) by you and me.

Can I surrender right now on behalf of the State and save us all the legal fees? We will be paying the defence AND the judge AND the jurors AND the air conditioner AND the building maintenance etc etc etc, and when we lose, we will be paying the plaintiff's attorney.

Will it be $millions more in taxpayer money given to Clay? Barnes? Which big name attorney will get our money next from our state being so foolish?

PRO TIP TO GEORGIA- If you don't want license tag messages that can be offensive, make the license tags out of the same thing the HOT lane scanners read. That way people can't see what they say.
sacred space

Great! We have now spent however much money creating a sacred space on privately owned motor vehicles (known as the "license plate") that shall not display "unauthorized" language despite private owners wishing to pay extra taxes for such unauthorized language. (What's the net financial loss for us taxpayer?)

For unauthorized language, infidels must add a privately owned sticker to their private motor vehicles. I suggest adding it right next to the sacred space!

Speaking of the vehicular sacred space, have you noticed the "clean design" of the new sacred space lettering? Have you noticed the lack of raised lettering? This is because the sacred space is also the surveillance space. The OCR computers on the police cars have an easier time with these flat, clean, uniformely sized letters that lack serifs.

Instead of the license tag I wanted to pay extra for, I will be painting some manga onto my mailbox and giving my residence three addresses of my very own choosing.

I shall also be painting letters and numbers in sacred space font all over my car, as should you.

Nah, wait, I am just another paranoid delusional.
