CHESTER, Pa. — California routed Temple 55-0 on Saturday in the USA Sevens Collegiate Rugby Championship to jump from fifth to first place in the final round-robin standings.

California finished pool play 3-0, also beating Virginia Tech 45-7 on Friday, and Kutztown 10-5 on Saturday. The Golden Bears will face Arizona in the quarterfinals today.

Marietta's Life University qualified second in the 20-team event at PPL Park. Penn State was third and defending champion Dartmouth fourth.

Life will face Kutztown in the quarterfinals, Penn State will play Navy, and Dartmouth will oppose UCLA.

California finished third last year.

“We have a lot of guys back from that team,” senior captain Seamus Kelly said. “We're one more year experienced. We have a good shot. This sevens game is pretty unpredictable so we got to go pedal to the metal the entire time.”

LIFE's undergraduate 7s rugby team ended up taking 2nd at the Collegiate Rugby Championship (CRC). The Men's Club team also was playing for their National Championship in Glendale, CO and WON!

In the past few weeks, Life University, this "little" school in Marietta, has won 2 National Championships (Undergraduate & Men's Club regular teams) and taken 2nd in 2 National Championship games (Undergraduate 7s & Men's Club 7s). This is the premier rugby program in the country!

Congrats to all the LIFE rugby teams!
