The incident at Gables Mill Apartments on Akers Ridge Drive in the Cumberland Mall area brought out an army of about 20 police officers, who reportedly evacuated residents from Building 19.
“It was extremely scary. To see snipers, fully armored SWAT personnel, and fully armed patrol at 6 a.m. in the morning was a terrifying wake-up call,” said one resident who said she was evacuated. Most if not all were Cobb County personnel.
“They evacuated me from my apartment around 6:40 a.m. and I waited at the front of the complex for more than an hour and then was told it was OK to go back. Police cars came and went until around 9 a.m. It scared me to death.”
Those arrested were: Deise Eclenira Brito, 30, who lives in the Cumberland area; Lancelot Maurice Outland, 29, of Stone Mountain; Jepen Attieam Parson, 32, of Stone Mountain; and Treze Demitri Parson, 46, of Providence, R.I. All were charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault.
According to arrest warrants, the four suspects are accused of robbing the couple at gunpoint in a home in the Gables Mill Apartment complex.
Brito, who lives in an apartment at the same complex, is accused of knocking on the residents’ door at about 12:30 a.m. on May 20 claiming that there was an emergency in the area.
“When (the male occupant) opened the door, (the four suspects) rushed into the apartment,” the arrest warrant states.
“At least one of the males (Outland) was armed with a handgun … making demands for money and threatening bodily harm if (the residents) were not compliant,” the warrant states.
Brito then reportedly drove the man to another location to try to get more money and during that time, the other three suspects stayed with the woman and threatened to hurt her if her fiance was not cooperative.
Officer Mike Bowman with Cobb Police said officers were able to locate the four because they reportedly all went to a neighbor’s apartment in the same complex after committing the alleged offense.
Bowman said the incident erupted because the female victim apparently owed Brito money and she “went to collect.”
“The area was secured, perimeter set and SWAT and negotiators were called,” he said.
