I am not sure if I am more amused or frustrated when someone who knows nothing about me tries to tell me who I am. Such is the case with MDJ columnist Kevin Foley.
Foley is an unapologetic die-hard liberal who loyally spouts liberal rhetoric in the MDJ weekly. And as long as he is telling us about what liberals think and why he thinks that it is so wonderful, that’s great! But when he launches his diatribes about what we conservatives believe, he clearly demonstrates that he has no clue. And this is not surprising. Since he is not a conservative and, I suspect, never has been, why should he understand what we believe? That would be like a Muslim truly understanding what Christians really believe.
In his April 26 column, he states that “conservatism is the domination of society by an aristocracy that can only be perpetuated through deception, especially in a democratic republic like the United States.”
Where to start ... First, I guess we conservatives must be very good at deception since more Republicans have been elected president than Democrats. I wonder how we do this deception and why it has worked so well on the American people for so long. Care to offer us a clue, Mr. Foley?
Next, which party is it that believes that the Washington, D.C., aristocracy (aka elected officials) should have more control over our lives (see Obamacare, gun control, education ...)? Seems to me that the liberals are the ones that believe that “we the people” are not smart enough to think for ourselves.
Finally, which presidential candidate made messianic proclamations like, “a light will shine through that window, a beam of light will come down upon you, you will experience an epiphany ... and you will suddenly realize that you must go to the polls and vote for Obama?” Certainly not a conservative.
Then he claims that “Romney cared not a whit about the middle class and poor.” Most liberals cannot hold a candle to Mitt Romney’s charitable work and contributions. In fact, in 2011, while President Obama gave 1 percent of his income to charity, Romney gave 15 percent!
And what exactly have the liberals done for the middle class and the poor? Nothing! Oh yeah, they send our money to them. So how’s that working for them? Half a century and billions upon billions of dollars after LBJ started the “War on Poverty,” the poverty rate in America is the same and many more people are dependent upon welfare and/or food stamps.
You see, Mr. Foley, we have a better idea. It’s called teach a man to fish and he becomes free to make his own way rather than being addicted to the slavery of government dependence.
Conservatives are the true believers that all men are created equal and deserve equal opportunity. We don’t believe in catering to a particular class of citizen nor do we believe that everyone deserves an equal result.
I would suggest Mr. Foley stick to writing about subjects he understands. Obviously, conservatism is not one of them.
