Lassiter High School sophomore Brandon Carpenter is a superhero with superhero strength. Brandon, a fan of Marvel Comics and Super Heroes, has muscular dystrophy. On April 26, Lassiter High School celebrated “Brandon Carpenter Superhero Day.” To show their Trojan spirit for Brandon, Lassiter students and staff dressed in superhero attire, greeting him on Friday morning with an inspiring round of applause. Posters of encouragement and cheerful door decorations also adorned the Lassister halls. Brandon was treated to a special breakfast where he was celebrated for his superhero strength.

Some of the guests spotted in the crowd were Brandon’s family, Lassiter cheerleaders, Lassiter String Ensemble, the Chick-fil-A Cow, Principal Dr. Richie, and fellow Lassiter students and staff. Lassiter teacher, Cathy Zingler, organized the event.


On May 3 at 7 p.m. and May 4 at 2 and 7 p.m., the music department of Eastside Christian School presents “Bugsy Malone Jr.” Katherine Peters, Jake Shore and Ashley Katherine Jones are part of a 44-member cast and crew of the gangster musical spoof. Paradocs, a 15-piece rock-and-roll band made up of WellStar physicians, nurses and medical personnel, play the Earl Smith Strand Theatre on Saturday at 8 p.m. The annual concert for the Friends of the Strand benefits the Strand theater. Music from the ’50s, ’60s, ’70s and ’80s to present day promise to get patrons dancing in the aisles.

On Saturday, 10 Women of Hope host the 5th Annual Women’s Brunch “Love a Bunch — Come to Brunch” to celebrate the spiritual side of women and help raise funds to support 10 Women of Hope’s mission to help single moms who are experiencing an essential financial emergency.

The Brunch will be from 10 a.m. to noon, at Zion Baptist Church. The church is at 165 Lemon St. in Marietta. The keynote speaker for the event is Rona Roberts, author of “Greater Acts than These…A Story of Courage, Faith and Love.” Shan Johnson will be the featured soloist.

Wear your favorite “stylin’shoes” as we celebrate the fun side of Keeping Single Moms on their Feet! Prizes will be awarded to First, Second, Third and Grand Prize winners.
