Cobb County police say the family members on Monday afternoon discovered an explosive device inside a safe in the home just northwest of Atlanta.
Cobb Police spokesman Mike Bowman says that the bomb squad was called to the home in the Paces Ferry Park subdivision in the Vinings area shortly before 5 p.m.
Officer Bowman said Monday night that investigators from the Cobb Police Bomb Squad and HazMat Team evacuated residents in the Paces Ferry Park subdivision while they determined the nature of the possible explosive. The main entrance to the subdivision was blocked throughout the afternoon and evening. “We evacuated for safety reasons,” Bowman said.
Police were able to remove and safely detonate it.
It wasn't immediately known what type of explosive device was found.
Residents were eventually allowed to return to their homes.
