Two separate armed robberies in Mableton during the past week have police investigators looking for clues.

In one incident, two Cobb County men were arrested after they allegedly robbed a man at gunpoint and then led police on a high-speed chase.

Jon Walter Besaw and Mack Calvin Morris are being held without bond in Cobb County Jail after police said they robbed a man at gunpoint for his cash along Old Alabama Road in the early morning of April 24.

According to the arrest warrants, the victim was walking along the road near Friendship Drive at about 12:45 a.m. when Besaw and Morris stopped their car in the roadway and demanded money.

While Besaw held a gun on the victim, Morris allegedly sifted through the man’s pockets and stole $2,100 and a cellphone.

They then fled in a 2013 Kia Soul before a Cobb County Police officer spotted their car 15 minutes later on Veterans Memorial Highway in Mableton. When he tried to pull them over, they fled.

According to police reports, the chase reached speeds of 90 mph, or twice the posted speed limit.

The driver continued to flee until he lost control of the car and hit a tree in the front yard of a home on Old Alabama Road.

Both men then fled on foot before being caught and arrested.

Besaw has been charged with felony armed robbery weapon and misdemeanor obstruction.

Morris has been charged with felony armed robbery and several misdemeanors, including attempting to elude, reckless driving, failure to stop at a stop sign, failure to maintain lane, speeding and obstruction.

The Cobb County Police Department is also investigating an armed robbery that occurred Saturday at a Valero gas station, 6161 Mableton Pkwy.

According to police, three men entered the store and held the clerk at gunpoint and demanded money. After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, the three fled on foot in an unknown direction.

One of the men is described as black, wearing a red bandanna and camouflage. He was armed with a black, semi-automatic pistol.

A second robber is described as black, wearing a red bandanna and a red “Bulls” ballcap.

The third offender is described only as wearing all black clothing.

Anyone with information is asked to call (770) 499-3945.
