MANSFIELD, Ga. (AP) — Forecasters say a storm has left numerous homes seriously damaged in north central Georgia.
Ryan Willis, of the National Weather Service, says between six and eight homes were severely damaged in Mansfield — about 50 miles southeast of downtown Atlanta. Willis says a woman was trapped in a collapsed building and has been hospitalized. Information on her condition was not immediately available.
Willis said a survey crew was on its way to Newton County Friday evening. Television footage showed debris from severely damaged homes and toppled trees strewn across the ground.
The storm was part of a system that prompted the National Weather Service to issue a tornado warning for Morgan and Walton counties. Severe thunderstorm watches remain effect until 8 p.m. for some areas as the storm moves east.
