Campbell victory secures playoff berth

Jose Garcia and Monico Hernandez each had a goal and an assist to lead Campbell to a 5-1 Region 4AAAAAA victory over South Cobb on Tuesday, and a state playoff spot.

Tierro Sangwinetti, Mark Sanbou, and Jerren Nixon each added a goal.

Campbell (9-5, 6-2) will travel to Wheeler on April 22.

Harrison 4, Kennesaw Mountain 0: The Hoyas won at home to seal at Region 4AAAAAA title behind two goals from Cole Guertin.

Nathan Vickroy scored 23 minutes into he game with an assist by Keegan Sanders to put the Hoyas on the board. Harrison added another before the half on an unassisted shot by Guerten.

Guerten scored his second goal 10 minutes into the second half with another assist by Sanders and Harrison capped the scoring on Drew Blankenbeckler’s goal off a corner kick by Taylor Matthews.

Harrison will play at Centennial on Friday in a non-region game.

Pace Academy 3, Walker 1: The Wolverines allowed three second-half goals and dropped a non-area match.

Kalim Kalla scored on a header midway through first half to give Walker a 1-0 lead.

The Wolverines (2-9) will travel to Atlanta International on Thursday.

GIRLS SOCCER

Allatoona 8, Paulding County 0:
Suzanne Arafa scored two goals and then had six assists as the Lady Buccaneers rolled to a Region 5AAAAA win.

Willough Davis scored three goals, Ash Das had two goals and an assist and Sammie Jacob finished with a goal and an assist.

Allatoona (8-4-1, 7-2) will travel to Grady on Thursday.

Whitefield Academy 1, Wesleyan 1: Caitlin Hesse scored the Lady Wolfpack’s only goal as they settled for a non-area tie.

Hesse scored 5 minutes into the game to give Whitefield Academy a 1-0 lead.

The game stayed that way until Wesleyan tied it 12 minutes into the second half.

Whitefield Academy (6-3-1) will travel to Christian Heritage on Tuesday.

North Cobb 7, Pebblebrook 0: Rachel Overley scored three goals with two assists to lead the Lady Warriors to a Region 4AAAAAA win.

Abbie Duckett scored two goals with two assists, Whitney Johnson had a goal and an assist, Alexis Copeland scored a goal and Renee Copeland had an assist.

North Cobb (8-7-1, 5-2) will host Kennesaw Mountain on April 19.

Harrison 5, Kennesaw Mountain 0: Five players scored as the fifth-ranked Lady Hoyas won to clinch the Region 4AAAAAA championship.

Savannah Vanderbeck, Lizzie Sieracki, Julia Dupre, Audrey Tanner and Hannah Ostman all reached the net. Paige Porter had two assists.

Allison Leone and Kelsey Daugherty combined to record the shutout for Harrison (11-1, 7-0), which will travel to Centennial on Friday.

Marietta 5, McEachern 0: The Lady Blue Devils did most of their damage in the first half, taking a 4-0 lead.

Kennedy Folse got her second hat trick of the season with three goals while Laura Deamorim and Melissa Perez accounted for the other two.

Goakeepers Abbie Christensen and Emily Alcantara combined for the shutout.

Marietta (4-6-1, 4-3) will play at South Paulding on Thursday.

BASEBALL

Mount Paran Christian 6, River Ridge 2:
Will Schnure was 2-for-2 as the Eagles earned a non-region victory.

Jake Palomaki had a double and an RBI. Taylor Trammell and Tyler Flowers each added a hit and an RBI.

Colton Cannon pitched 3 2/3 innings allowing three hits and stuck out three to earn the victory.

Mount Paran Christian (16-2) will host St. Francis on Friday.

Late Monday

Franklin County (Ky.) 8, Pope 6: Franklin scored five runs on Pope early with a pair of two-run singles and the Greyhounds couldn’t quite recover, despite scoring three runs in the second and two in the sixth.

Mason Shiflett was 3-for-3 with two singles and a double. Nathaniel Lowe was 3-for-3 with two singles and a double and three RBIs that included a two-run double in the second. Patrick Wiseman was 1-for-3 with an RBI single in the fifth.

Pope (10-6) will host Osborne at home in a Region 7AAAAA game.

BOYS LACROSSE

Lassiter 12, Harrison 3:
Hunter Rowley and Corey John each had four goals to lead the Trojans to a non-area victory.

Jack Fitzharris had a goal with two assists. Austin Herrin and Connor Bell each added a goal.

Lassiter (9-2) will travel to Pope on Thursday.

BOYS TENNIS

Woodward Academy 3, Walker 2:
Will Chocallo and Daniel Sosnovsky won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. Austin Newsome and Sloan Coolbroth won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 but couldn’t get help from singles.

Woodward won all its singles matches in straight sets.

Walker (12-2) will play at Woodstock today in another non-region match.

Kennesaw Mountain 5, North Paulding 0: Aaron Barris pulled out a 6-0, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles. Everyone else combined to lose just three games with Joe Klokow and Will Batdorf both winning 6-0, 6-0 at singles.

Kennesaw Mountain (15-2) will host Campbell today in the first round of the 4AAAAAA tournament.

GIRLS TENNIS

Allatoona 5, New Manchester 0:
The Lady Buccaneers made quick work in their Region 5AAAAA match by not dropping a single game.

Kennedy Craig, Allison Whitley and Haley Proctor all won singles matches 6-0, 6-0. The doubles teams of Kat Pugh with Lauren Lees and Melanie Whitley with Kristi Cooper followed suit.

Allatoona (13-1-1, 9-0) will travel to Rome today to complete the region schedule.

Kennesaw Mountain 4, North Paulding 1: The Lady Mustangs tuned up for the Region 4AAAAAA tournament by winning the non-region match.

After each battled to win 7-5 first sets, Samantha Maddin and Katie Manroe had easier second sets to wrap up their singles matches.

Both doubles teams dominated. Samantha Armas and Nicole Croxton recorded a shutout, while Marilyn Corn and Chika Okonkwo allowed one game.

Top-seeded Kennesaw Mountain (15-3) is scheduled to open the region tournament with eighth-seeded Campbell on Thursday, though coaches are hoping to play today in light of Thursday’s forecasted rain.

BOYS GOLF

Mount Paran Christian 151, Darlington 163:
Tyler Young shot a 2-under 34 as the Eagles beat their Area 4A rival at Rome’s Coosa Country Club.

Jameson VerSteeg shot 38, Mack Alford 39 and Davis Hall 40.

Mount Paran will travel today to Eagle Watch Golf Club in Woodstock, facing Kell.

Walker 159, Sprayberry 185: Joe Reich and Michael Arkin both shot 38 to lead Walker in a dual match against Sprayberry at Marietta Country Club.

Garrett Culik carded a 40 for the Wolverines and Johny Johnny Hsu shot a 43.

John Sterrett led Sprayberry with a 41 and Daniel Sterrett fired a 46.

Walker will face Galloway at North Fulton Golf Course today.

GIRLS GOLF

Darlington 83, Mount Paran Christian 94:
Holly Cannon shot 41, but the Lady Eagles ultimately didn’t have enough to prevail at Coosa Country Club in Rome.

McKenna Cua added a 53 for Mount Paran, which will face Kell today at Woodstock’s Eagle Watch Golf Club.

Harrison 131, Kennesaw Mountain 169: Caroline McLeod and Allison Black both finished with a 42 to lead the Lady Hoyas at Brookstone Country Club and Haley Willman carded a 47.

Casey Bunda shot 51 to lead Kennesaw Mountain and Hailey Gossett had a 53.

Harrison and KMHS will play again today at Marietta Country Club.
