Sunday’s letter to the editor (“Why did Isakson, Chambliss vote to fund Obamacare?”) left the inaccurate impression that I support the president’s health care law known as “Obamacare.”
I’ve been a staunch opponent of Obamacare ever since I voted against passage of this terribly flawed law December 2009, and I will continue to work to dismantle it.
I joined with 20 other Republican senators in voting for the continuing resolution on March 20 because it averted a government shutdown, funded our troops and locked in the lower spending levels of the sequestration. During the debate on the continuing resolution, I voted for Sen. Cruz’s amendment to defund Obamacare. In fact, since 2009, I have voted numerous times to repeal or defund parts of Obamacare and the entire law.
My strong opposition to Obamacare will never change. If any constituent has a question about this or any other vote, please do not hesitate to call my Atlanta office at (770) 661-0999.
U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson
