YWCA honors Women of Achievement at annual awards gala

On March 15, some of Cobb County’s most powerful women descended upon the Cobb Galleria Centre. The YWCA hosted its Tribute to Women of Achievement where Cassandra Buckalew was honored as Woman of the Year. Buckalew, an entrepreneur, owns and operates the Historic Marietta Trolley Co., Peachtree Trolley Co., Marietta Pedicabs, Ghosts of Marietta and Cassandra Buckalew Interiors.

Also nominated were Karen Caro (marketing manager of Cobb Galleria Centre), Terri Cole (mother and community volunteer), Debra Day (director of development for Kennesaw State University), Nicole Faulk (region manager with Georgia Power), Phyllis Gingrey Collins (partner at local lawfirm of Gentry, Smith, Dettmering, Morgan, Schnatmaier and Collins), Meredith Hodges (vice president of HR and External Affairs with Gas South), Dr. Cheryl Hungerford, (deputy superintendent for Cobb County Schools), Angela Hyatt (electronics engineer senior staff with Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company), Theresa Jenkins (executive director of Marietta Visitors Bureau), Carol Ann King (Realtor with Harry NormanRealtors), Ellen Langford (VP and COO of WellStar Medical Group), Karen Lockhart (associate principal at Walton High School), Jacqueline Payne (supervising attorney with Legal Aid of Cobb County), and Patricia Pearlberg (VP and partner with Coro Realty Advisors LLC).

The 2013 Kathryn Woods Racial Justice Award was presented to InfoMart for its leadership in racial, ethnic and gender inclusion. Tammy Cohen, president and chair, accepted the award on behalf of InfoMart. Jinger Robins, executive director of SafePath Children’s Advocacy Center, received the 2013 Pat Head Dignity Award for exemplifying the standard of “doing the right thing” when serving victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Terri Bunten Guthrie and Jim Guthrie chaired the evening along with honorary chairs Lisa and Sam Olens.

Those who attended were Kelly and Chuck Bachman, Babe Atkins-Byrne and Bill Byrne, Juanita Carmichael, Anna Cole, Terri and Steve Cole, Linda Flournoy, Jennifer and Charles Gay, Alison and Chris Gruehn, Kathy Harden, Rhonda and Mark Jacobson, Dawn and Alex Koutouzis, Sally Macaulay, Becky Paden, Christy and Eduin Rosell, Mary Staley, Pam and John Steele, Holly Tuchman, April Wright and Sue Wyatt.
