Did anyone know about this week’s Ed-SPLOST vote except the county’s educators and parents of school-age children? There was hardly any publicity. I only saw signs over the weekend in a neighborhood on a Smyrna side street and only heard any broadcast coverage the morning of the vote.
There is something inherently flawed about having a tax vote in a democratic republic when said vote is not tied to a general or primary election in order to assure passage. In fact, such votes are no worse than the election shenanigans of second-rate banana republics, even if the justification is the cynical excuse that “it is for the children.”
Cobb’s elected officials ought to be ashamed of themselves for permitting this to happen. And if they ague that they have no control over the renewal, due to the enabling legislation, they should even be more ashamed of themselves for making a cop-out excuse to do nothing to change this. As such I proudly state that I voted NO to continuing this tax due to the renewal circumstances. Furthermore, if any of our elected officials had to formally approve the placement on the ballot, then I will vote AGAINST that person upon re-election.

Big win, but ... is Ed-SPLOST losing steam?

Less than 10 percent of registered voters cast votes. Time to change the SPLOST laws and enact voter notification laws. Unless you want a banana republic.
If Cobb County residents cared...I mean really, REALLY cared, they had many options to let their voice be heard. No one was preventing them from casting their vote either FOR or AGAINST. They could've voted by absentee ballot. They could've done advanced voting. Or they could've voted March 19. It's as simple as running just one more errand in your day. Were you expecting a stretch limo to pick you up with Starbuck's waiting inside? Oh...you were. My bad.
You live in Smyrna, where the Max Bacon dynasty has ruled for over 26 years. This is why 20 million dollars can be spent on ONE MILE of road, Concord Road. This neighborhood is being destroyed by this 20 million dollar WASTE!!
Why aren't people at city hall w/ torches & pitchforks??
20 MILLION dollars to cut a swath through what SHOULD be a charming walkable neighborhood,(were it in Decatur, Roswell, Sandy Springs or Woodstock)..is nothing more than a slush fund for politicians & contractors!!
All the SPLOST's for roads, sidewalks, education(buildings),..is like mainlining heroin to these elected officials.
And the folks contributing to their addiction are enablers.
So now you are accusing Smyrna elected officials of mainlining heroin?
