A 19-year-old driver and his 8-year-old passenger were discovered dead around 2 p.m. at the scene of an accident in the southbound lanes of I-575 just north of the Chastain Road exit in Kennesaw.
The driver was identified as Abraham Fernandez-Zuniga of Acworth, and the juvenile’s name is not being released at this time, pending notification of family.
Officer Mike Bowman with Cobb Police said investigators were told by witnesses that Fernandez-Zuniga was driving a red 2001 Chrysler Town and Country minivan in the left, northbound lane of I-575 when for unknown reasons he exited the highway and crossed over the grassy median and into the southbound lanes.
“As the Chrysler entered into the southbound lanes, it was struck in the driver’s side by the commercial truck,” the police release stated.
The other vehicle was a white 2007 International 7600 commercial truck driven by 42-year-old Earldean Clayton of Rex. He was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta with non-life threatening injuries.
“We need witnesses to come forward so we can find out what happened before he crossed into that median,” Bowman said.
The wreck caused major back-ups along southbound I-575 north of the accident, and Georgia State Patrol Officers were called to the scene to help redirect drivers.
Bowman said the road was closed between 2 and 5 p.m., and just before 5 p.m., one southbound lane was open to relieve some of the traffic.

How Big will Big Government King's demand be?
Are his intials D.A. or B.G. anyway? (for Big Guy, not Big Government, silly! He likes Small Government, except for all that Big Government he seems to be self-employed lobbying for!)
SO... Will he demand a wall down I-575 or a wall along the USA's border with Mexico?
Speak up Big Guy, D.A. King! What'll ya have? What'll ya have?
You are very disrespectful to the family of these children that died in the wreck. You are making flippant jokes while they mourn their children.
The condition of the windshield wipers and the tires on the 12 year old Mini-van should be examined. Heavy rain was in the area at the time of the crash.
