MARIETTA — More than $3 million in SPLOST III projects were reviewed by Cobb Schools’ Facilities and Technology Committee during its monthly meeting Monday night.

Their recommendations for spending the special purpose local option sales tax revenues will be considered for approval by the school board Thursday night.

The group recommended approval of six separate construction projects at seven different Cobb schools, valued at $3,171,838 in all.

Various renovation projects are recommended for Murdock, Shallowford Falls, Timber Ridge, Dowell, Compton and Lewis elementary schools and Awtrey Middle School.

The only item over budget is the project at Lewis Elementary in Kennesaw. The $1,076,000 project is 55 percent, or $383,390, above the expected cost.

Chris Ragsdale, Cobb’s deputy superintendent of operations, said the project is above the estimated value due to the addition in the square footage in the kitchen area to install a larger cooler.

A request regarding a different portion of the project was made by Todd Herrington. He was appointed by board member Tim Stultz, who represents southeast Cobb.

Herrington made a motion that the school board understand why the lighting repairs at the school are about $150,000 more than originally estimated and why the square footage of the project was increased by so much. Ragsdale said he would get these answers to the board prior to the board meeting.

The committee also reviewed the February SPLOST III collection numbers.

The district collected 6.3 percent, or $628,966, less than projected for last month. A total of $9.2 million was collected, making it a little more than $21 million for the year and $470.9 million to date on the five-year initiative.

For the year, that puts Cobb at bringing in about 2.3 percent, or $497,269, less than projected, but 0.1 percent, or $467,706, more than projected for the entirety of SPLOST III.
