North Cobb tried to get back into the game in the middle innings. After cutting the Kennesaw Mountain lead to 5-4, the Warriors had the bases loaded and nobody out in the fifth. But the Mustangs reliever Chase Sloane came in and pitched out of the jam without giving up a run.
Reggie Pruitt went 2-for-4 with a double, Tyler Stephenson was
2-for-4 and Ryley Gilliam finished 2-for-2 with an RBI.
Trevor Devine went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Patrick Smith was 2-for-4 for North Cobb.
Kennesaw Mountain (6-3, 2-1) will travel to face the Warriors (5-6, 1-2) again on Monday.
Walton 3, North Gwinnett 2: Joey Szwec scored on a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Raiders to victory.
Stephen Wrenn was 2-for-2 with an RBI and Logan Barnett went 2-for-4. Aaron Rzucidlo added a solo HR in second.
Glen Panter pitched two shutout innings to earn the victory.
Walton (9-3) will host Milton on Wednesday.
Marietta 7, Hillgrove 1: Gabe Friese pitched a complete-game five-hitter and struck out nine to lead the Blue Devils to a Region 4AAAAAA win.
Robert Harris went 2-for-3 and drove in two, Myles Wilson and Trent Wildermuth each had two hits and Eric Henderson added two RBIs.
Marietta (8-2, 3-0) will make the return trip to Hillgrove (5-4, 2-1) on Monday.
Harrison 18, Pebblebrook 3 (4 inn): The visiting Hoyas scored eight runs in the second inning to seize control over Pebblebrook in a Region 4AAAAAA game.
Harrison (3-6, 1-0) would add six more in the fourth inning.
In the second inning, Pebblebrook gave up three walks and hit a batter in the second inning, but it was Cameron Iszler that broke the game open with a a two-run single.
Nick Sexton was 2-for-2 for Harrison with a double and scored four runs. Avery Greer got the win on the mound, giving up two earned runs on three hits and struck out seven in three inning.
Harrison will host Pebblebrook on Monday.
Kell 12, North Springs 2 (5 inn): Kell jumped on North Springs with eight runs in the third inning.
The Longhorns scored their second inning runs by getting five hits and taking advantage of three walks.
Bradley Taylor was 3-for-3 with a three-run home run in the first inning and finished with five RBIs. Jamari Moore was 2-for-2 and Brice O’Brien was 2-for-3 with a double. Kerrigan McManigal was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a double. Carson Hughes was 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Alec Stockton also contributed with a double.
Neil Seiz got the win for Kell. He pitched three innings and gave up two runs on two hits.
Kell (6-5, 3-2) will play at Riverwood on Monday.
Pope 16, Northview 1 (3 inn): Steven Skruck pitched all three innings to get the win, giving up a run on one hit, and had plenty of run support. He gave up one hit and struck out five.
Patrick Wiseman got it started with a first inning grand slam and Pope strung together five straight hits in the second to put the game out of reach.
Wiseman was 2-for-2 with five RBIs. Mason Shiflett was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Nathaniel Lowe was 2-for-2 with a double and three runs scored. Jared Parker was
1-for-2 with a three-run double to cap the second inning.
Pope (5-4, 4-2) and will play at Dunwoody today.
Sprayberry 7, Riverwood 5: Sprayberry continues to excel in Region 7AAAAA play.
The Yellow Jackets jumped on Riverwood by putting up a six-spot in the second inning. Highlighted by a three-run triple by Michael Chavis. In the fourth, Chavis hit a single, stole two bases and scoring on a passed ball.
Chavis was 2-for-3 with three RBIs to lead the way. McKenzie Mills was 2-for-2 with two walks and scored a run.Vandan Patel was 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI.
Mills was also the winning pitcher, throwing 5 2/3 innings in relief.
Sprayberry (4-6, 4-1) will play at Cambridge on Monday.
Mount Paran Christian 11, St. Francis 2: Mount Paran only led 3-2 at the end of the third inning, but the Eagles exploded for four runs in the fourth and four more in the seventh to earn the Region 6A road win and remain undefeated on the season.
Andrew Maxwell (4-0) gave up one earned run and struck out five in four innings pitched for Mount Paran (9-0, 7-0), which had 13 team hits.
Matt McKenzie totaled three RBIs and his double in the seventh inning drove in two of them. Ryan Murphy batted 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Isaac Phillips also had two RBIs. Keith Johnson was 1-for-2 with a RBI.
Landon Faulkner batted 2-for-5 with a double, while Jake Palamocki had two hits.
Mount Paran is at Gordon Lee on Monday.
Johnson Ferry 8, Dominion Christian 1: The Knights had no answer for the team of home-schooled players from east Cobb.
Johnson Ferry was sparked by Michael Maiocco, who had two hits, including a bases-loaded triple. Jake Harris also had two hits.
Luke Lewallen had one of Dominion’s four hits and drove in the Knights’ lone run with sacrifice fly. Nick Carr, who reached on a single, scored the run.
Dominion (4-1) will host Augusta Prep and the East Cobb Titans travel team for a pair of games today.
Campbell 2, North Cobb 1 (PK): Danny Salgado clinched the win with his penalty kick attempt, giving the Spartans an insurmountable 5-3 edge.
Monico Hernandez, who scored the lone goal in regulation, also succeeded in the penalty kick phase, as did Jose Garcia, Enrique Yenny and Andrej Richards.
Campbell’s Julio Telez saved a total of seven shots, including North Cobb’s first penalty kick.
The Spartans (5-4, 2-2 Region 4AAAAAA) will host Pebblebrook on Tuesday.
North Cobb (3-5, 2-1) will travel Tuesday to Hillgrove.
Pebblebrook 4, McEachern 1: Fredy Grande scored two goals to lead the Falcons to a Region 4AAAAAA victory.
Juan Cadenas and Eduardo Garcia each had a goal while Brian Gutierrez and Octavio Martinez each had assists.
Pebblebrook (4-2-1, 2-1) will travel to Campbell on Tuesday.
Walton 2, Woodstock 1: Walton took a 2-1 halftime lead and held on for the Region 5AAAAAA victory.
Charlie Williams and Greg Carbo each scored a goal for the Raiders (6-3, 2-1). Sommy Khalha assisted on each score.
Michael Jurick had eight saves for Walton, which hosts Milton Tuesday.
North Cobb 10, Campbell 0: Rachel Overly scored three goals to help pace the Lady Warriors to another Region 4AAAAAA victory.
Molly Mead scored two goals, with an assist. Abbie Duckett, Alexis Copeland and Alana Algcaoili each had a goal and an assist. Camila Guadarrama and Rene Copeland each added a goal.
North Cobb (6-4-1, 3-0) will travel to Hillgrove on Tuesday.
Hillgrove 9, Eagle’s Landing 0: An eight-goal first half allowed the Lady Hawks to romp at the Brine Tournament of Champions on Jekyll Island.
Sydney A. Clark played a part in more than half of the goals, scoring two and assisting on three others. Necee Jennings and Maggie Gaughan each had two goals and an assist.
Rachel Palazzo, Emma Dawson and Nathalie Montano also scored, with Palazzo contributing two assists and Dawson one.
Ivy MacIntyre and Breanne Dykes didn’t face a shot in recording the combined shutout for Hillgrove (7-3-1), which will face Creekview today.
Mount Paran Christian 3, Statesboro 0: Held without a goal in the first half, the Lady Eagles broke out for three in the second half of the Brine Tournament of Champions game.
Charlotte Dayton, Kellie Ebert and Rachel VanHorn each scored, with Ebert and Alex Reed adding assists.
Courtney McKenzie made three saves for Mount Paran (5-1), which will play Wayne County today.
Marietta 6, South Cobb 2: Kennedy Folse scored three goals to lead the Lady Blue Devils in the Region 4AAAAAA victory. Ashton Adams tacked on two more goals and Yadira Castillo added one more.
Marietta (3-2-1, 2-2) took a 4-1 lead at the half and took starters out with 25 minutes left in the game.
Marietta will play at Mount Paran Christian on Wednesday.
Cherokee 2, Wheeler 0: The Lady Wildcats’ pursuit for their first win fell short again.
Lauren Bramblett saved six of the eight shots she faced for Wheeler (0-4-1, 0-2), which will travel Monday to River Ridge.
Whitefield Academy 1, North Cobb Christian 0: After a scoreless first half, Caitlin Hesse scored with 6:44 left in the game, lifting the Lady Wolfpack to the Area 7A win.
Whitefield (2-2, 1-1) will host Pacelli today.
Kennesaw Mountain 13, North Gwinnett 7: Megan Dreyer scored three goals and assisted on one as the Lady Mustangs won the non-area home game.
Abbi Barnett, Lauren Matts, Amanda Griffin and Lily Morin each had two goals, with Barnett and Griffin adding assists.
Monica Hicks made 11 saves for Kennesaw Mountain (5-1), which will host Newnan on Tuesday for an Area 1AAAAAA game.
Marietta 5, Newnan 0: The Blue Devils largely dominated the opening match of their annual tournament.
Zachery Garrison, Jay Buxton and the doubles team of Jackson Mitchell and Patrick Lee all cruised to victory, none allowing more than four games. Marcus Brito also won in straight sets, by a 6-3, 7-5 margin.
Jacob Pope and David Ho rallied to win 5-7, 6-4, 10-7.
Marietta (4-1) will continue tournament play with Allatoona today.
