A man shot a woman dead in their home Sunday morning before going outside and killing himself in the middle of a cul-de-sac in a quiet Marietta neighborhood, police said.
“Our internal investigations are showing it was a murder suicide,” said Marietta Police spokesman Officer David Baldwin.
Henry Harlan Wooten, 70 of Acworth, shot Kay Cornell Janus, 72, around 10 a.m. Sunday in the garage of her house in the 1500 block of Gateview Way, near the intersection of Scufflegrit and Allgood roads in northeastern Marietta. Baldwin said Wooten, who was involved in a “long-term relationship” with Janus, then left the house and went to the other end of Gateview, about a block away, where he shot himself.
Though Baldwin said they were a “couple,” investigators had conflicting information on whether or not Wooten and Janus were married.
Baldwin said police didn’t know what led to the shooting.
“The investigators are deep into interviewing people,” he said.
Baldwin said he wanted to make clear that the shooting was an isolated domestic incident.
“Obviously, this was a very quiet, nice neighborhood,” he said. “We don’t want anybody to think this was a crime spree or somebody was on the loose.”
