The Troup Tigers were off to a fast start this season with three wins in four games, and they were looking to keep the good times rolling on Thursday against Hardaway.

Instead, the Tigers got their hats handed to them by the homestanding Hawks.

The Hawks charged to a 6-0 lead through three innings, and they didn’t look back on the way to a 13-4 victory.

Things got so bad for the Tigers that they gave up five runs in the fourth inning, even though they didn’t allow a hit.

“It was the total opposite of the way we’ve been playing,” Troup head coach Craig Garner said. “We didn’t pitch very well, and we didn’t play defense very well.”

The only good news was that the Tigers managed to avoid the run rule by scoring three runs in the top of the fifth inning.

If the Tigers hadn’t scored at least one run in the inning, the game would have ended after five innings.

Troup did bang out nine hits, with Brandon Butts and Justin Neighbors leading the way with two hits apiece.

Justin Ellison had two hits, including a home run, and four RBIs for Hardaway.

Troup will look to get back on track when it hosts Harris County on Monday.

BASEBALL: The LaGrange Academy Warriors opened their season with an 8-5 loss at Heritage School in Newnan on Thursday.

The game was called in the fifth inning because of darkness.

Zach Breland got the start for the Warriors, and Brandon Haynes also pitched.

LaGrange Academy will visit Brandon Hall School on Tuesday.

SOCCER: Troup High’s girls’ soccer team, taking on the powerful Columbus Lady Blue Devils Thursday night, were unable to keep pace in a 10-0 loss.

The Lady Tigers (2-5 overall) fell to 0-2 in Region 5-AAAA play heading into today’s game at Shaw.

Three different players scored three goals for Columbus, which improved to 4-1 overall, and 2-0 in the region.
