Ronald James Baer, born July 18, 1946, of Acworth, died from heart complications on March 1, 2013. Originally from Statesville, North Carolina, Ron had lived in Georgia since 1972. He retired from The Coca-Cola Company in 2000 after 28 years of service. He graduated from North Carolina State University in 1968 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He loved travel, collecting wooden bowls & carvings, college basketball, Braves baseball, live theatre and playing bridge. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Cheryl McLain Baer, his daughter, Catherine Shaifer; her husband, Adam, and three grandsons, Jack, Frank and James. He was a member of The Marietta Country Club and a founding member of Atlanta Weimaraner Club Rescue. Ron was known for his dry wit and love of dogs. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ron’s name to Atlanta Weimaraner Club Rescue. Visit www.AtlantaLovesWeims.org for information about making donations to help save more Gray Ghosts. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6-8 PM at SouthCare Cremation Society Chapel. The memorial service will be held on Sunday, 1PM in the SouthCare Chapel, 595 Franklin Road, Marietta 30067.
I will miss Ron's leadership at the bridge table. I always admired how thorough and practical he was...good characteristics for a bridge player to have! I hope you come back to our Tuesday afternoon lessons soon.
