The Crisp County Cougars ended up on the top of the mountain.

In the eight-team LaGrange Toyota Invitational, the Cougars (3-1) captured the top spot with a 9-2 victory over Grayson (2-2) in Saturday night’s championship game at LaGrange College.

The tournament, which began Thursday night with LaGrange’s 2-1 victory over Russell County, was played under dry conditions, but it was frigid throughout, with snow flurries even falling during Saturday’s games.

In a tournament where games have had to be called off because of rain in past years, though, making it through to the end was a victory of sorts.

Crisp County and Grayson each won their respective four-team pools to advance to the finals.

Crisp County went 2-1 in a pool that included LaGrange, Lambert and Russell County.

Grayson was also 2-1 in a pool with Callaway, Cullman and Eagle’s View.

In the third-place game, the Callaway Cavaliers fell to Lambert 8-5, and LaGrange outlasted Cullman 5-4 in the fifth-place game, and Russell County beat Eagle’s View to finish seventh.

Here are the final tournament standings

First - Crisp County (3-1)

Second - Grayson (2-2)

Third - Lambert (3-1)

Fourth - Callaway (2-2)

Fifth - LaGrange (2-2)

Sixth - Cullman (1-3)

Seventh - Russell County (2-2)

Eighth - Eagle’s View (1-3)
