The Marietta man accused of sending a threatening letter to Cobb Superior Court Judge Reuben Green’s wife has been denied bond and ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

James Edward Satterfield, 58, appeared before Douglas County Judge Donald Howe in Cobb Superior Court Judge Tain Kell’s courtroom Tuesday morning.

All of Cobb’s regular Superior Court judges have recused themselves from this case, said Kim Isaza with the Cobb District Attorney’s Office.

Satterfield was arrested Dec. 30, 2012, and indicted Feb. 7 on two counts of terroristic threats with intent to retaliate, three counts of terroristic threats and one count of stalking.

According to the warrant, Satterfield is accused of sending a letter addressed to Green’s wife sometime between Dec. 20 and Dec. 30 stating that he would “kill and eat their children … cook them first to make them more palatable.”

The letter also said, “Please give a copy of this letter to police so that when you are slaughtered the public will know who were really responsible.”

The warrant does not indicate any relationship between Satterfield and Green or his family, but according to Cobb Superior Court records, Green presided over Satterfield’s divorce case between April 2011 and July 2012.

Satterfield was listed as the plaintiff in the civil case.

Chief Assistant District Attorney Don Geary is the lead prosecutor in the case. A court date has not been scheduled.
