The performance came after both east Cobb choral programs were omitted last year from the ASO’s annual Christmas program in downtown Atlanta. The nearly 200 students had performed in the show the previous four years.
Officials with the ASO said at that time they were looking for more diverse high school choruses to perform in the show.
Musicians in the symphony took things into their own hands and reached out to the local choral directors, Brian Williams at Lassiter and Jana Williams at Walton, to reschedule a special performance at Lassiter High School’s recently completed music hall.
Proceeds from the concert go to benefit both the Lassiter and Walton high school chorus booster clubs.
