MAKOHON, Martha Ann Myers Makohon of Marietta, age 66, went to be with her beloved Savior on February 11, 2013. Martha Ann was born in Pensacola, FL, on May 30, 1946, and was raised in Macon, GA, where she graduated with honors from A. L. Miller High School, class of 1964. She later graduated cum laude from North Georgia College, class of 1968, with a Bachelor of Science degree. She then moved to Marietta and began her career, teaching math and history at J. J. Daniel Middle School for ten years. She earned a Master of Education from West Georgia College in 1975. After teaching, Martha Ann dedicated her life to her husband and to her children. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing Ping-Pong. She spent many joyful hours waterskiing on Lake Lanier and on the bleachers, watching her kids compete in softball, baseball, and swimming. She will be remembered for her loving devotion to her family and friends, her courageous determination, her independent spirit, her grace and beauty in the midst of a difficult disease, her sweet sense of humor, and her love for all things sky blue. Martha Ann’s family wishes to express their gratitude to her friends and neighbors who visited and provided support. The family appreciates the high level of compassionate care given by her nurse Laura Reidich and the dedicated professionals at Halcyon Hospice and Maranatha House. Martha Ann is predeceased by her parents Jean Thomas Myers and Hazel Cunningham Myers. She is survived by her devoted husband of 40 years, Michael Edward (Marietta, GA); a daughter, Laurin (Woodstock, GA) and a son, Michael Benjamin (Boone, NC); a sister, Margie (Chuck) Grace (Jeffersonville, GA), and two brothers, Tommy (Terri) Myers (Danielsville, GA), and Jimmy Myers (Houston, TX). A memorial service celebrating Martha Ann’s life is to be conducted at 2:00 PM, Friday, February 22, at the chapel of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church (955 Johnson Ferry Road, Marietta, GA, 30068) where the Reverend John Houchens, Senior Vice President of Advancement and Global Ministries for Walk Thru the Bible, is to officiate. Casual attire is welcome, and all guests are encouraged to join with the family in including sky blue in their attire in honor of Martha Ann’s favorite color. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM at the chapel of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church. In lieu of customary remembrances, the family respectfully requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Martha Ann’s name be directed to the National Ataxia Foundation, 2600 Fernbrook Lane North, Suite 119, Minneapolis, MN 55447-4752 or online at www.ataxia.org.
