Cobb mayors aping Obama on illegals

DEAR EDITOR:

Thanks, MDJ, for your fine editorial reporting of the recalcitrance of the various Cobb mayors and other elected representatives who, though being elected by the people for the people, have decided that it’s not in their best interests to actually serve the people when it comes to ascertaining the legality of workers in the counties’ and cities’ employ, but to serve instead the groups who raise the most money and yell the loudest.

What a loathsome pursuit politics has become. Blatantly and flagrantly, they flout the law whenever it suits their own purposes. The model for such sordid behavior, alas, comes to them from the very top: the president himself. This administration has taken mendacity to Olympic sport status. He and they lie, it seems, for sheer enjoyment, smiling all the while. They know, from the president down to county and city levels, that only a very few folks are paying even a modicum of attention to what they’re doing.

Newspaper readership, all too clearly, is way down. Reading in any form, it would appear, is down. The People seem to say, tacitly, “Let George do it.” “George,” by golly, will most certainly “do it;” that is, run government and our lives. But it will be done on their terms, and for their own ends, and not ours, the apathetic People. The country and even the world, will become, more than ever before, divided by the readers and the non-readers; the former ruling the latter.

Given where we find ourselves politically these days, the wryest cynicism falls short.

Harry Hagan

What exactly is this meant to complain about? Mayors, undocumented workers, the President, or newspaper readership?

Mr. Hagan, a friend bragged to me the other day that she "never" reads newspapers. She's a mom in her late 40s, influential in her children's lives.

What ever happened to mothers who actually passed along civic participation and interest in their children and in the livelihood of the family?FACEBOOK and such silliness has replaced serious thought and teaching among too many parents. Not sure if that will ever change back. Liberals love this because as mothers and fathers relinquish their duties, constantly on their phones, screwing around on Facebook, the state's influence will grow and influence their kids at even earlier ages. This is why liberals have targeted education in Obama's second term. He will visit Head Start here in Atlanta tomorrow and just coincidentally his buddy William Ayers, education guru and Pentagon bomber/terrorist will speak at an education convention downtown at the same time.

Frustrating isn't it?? The benefits of technology, the fast access to information has actually reduced the importance and meaning of the data to people. Between television and the internet, deep understanding is coming to a halt, replaced by cursory availability of information that may or may not be correct.

I do not believe we will ever change back unless some hostile or earth shaking event forces us to go back.

There is a commercial on TV, at present, where a young woman tells her neighbor that they(?) cannot put information on TV that is not true, then her French model date , whom she met through the internet, comes to pick her up for a date.

Unfortunately, that same technology, as you mention, is helping the Nanny State to grow. It is not always used to its best advantage.

Perhaps a solar flare EMP incident might be less of a bad thing than one would first think. It might force people to read a document and understand it instead of bringing it up on a screen, using it and then letting it go back into the land of the forgotten.
