George W. Carreker, age 84 of Smyrna passed away Wednesday February 6, 2013. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 pm Sunday February 10 , 2013 at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, 4495 Sandy Plains Road Marietta, Georgia with Rev. Jimmy Hood and Dr. Herschell Sheats officiating. Burial will be 12:30 pm Monday February 11, 2013 in Georgia National Cemetery in Canton ,Georgia. The family will receive friends 3pm to 5 pm. Saturday at Castellaw Funeral Home, Smyrna. George was born in Concord, Georgia, attended Martha Berry College in Rome, Georgia, served in the U.S. Army in Germany 1950-1951. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson Law School and was admitted to the Georgia Bar in 1958. He was a former attorney for the City of Smyrna, Georgia. He was awarded the “Certificate of Accomplishment” for more than fifty years of service to his community by the State of Georgia Bar Association (only given to those with perfect record). George mastered the art of barbecue, was a successful rock hound, master gardener, avid reader and a crossword puzzle whiz. George was a Sunday school teacher for over fifty years, was a student of the Bible and lived the word of God. He is survived by, wife, Carole Z. Carreker, son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Melissa Carreker and granddaughter Bailey Carreker, stepson, Barth Norton. He was preceded in death by daughter Beth Carreker.
