Jane Riley (75) left her earthly home on February 1, 2013, and she will be remembered for her unfeigned faith, her unconditional love, her keen wit and her selfless service to others. Jane was born and reared in Fulton, MS. She received her education degree from Delta State University and taught school in Mississippi after graduation. She came to Marietta in the 60’s and began her educational career with the Marietta City Schools System. She worked as a classroom teacher and as the kindergarten coordinator in the systems’ Central Office. In 1974, Jane was selected to serve as principal of Hickory Hills Elementary School and remained in that position until she retired in 1989. The school’s Media Center was named for her in honor of her service. Jane remained friends with many staff members, parents and students, all of whom extol her leadership. Two churches in Marietta, Eastside Baptist, where she was a member, and First Baptist, where she had many close friends, had a profound impact on her life. Jane was known for her love and compassion for others, particularly those in need. Jane was preceded in death by her parents Earnest Cecil Riley and Clara Nell Dulaney Riley, and a brother, Ray Riley. Surviving family members are her two nieces, Jeannie (Harold) Vinson of Golden, MS, Cathy Riley of Tupelo, MS; sister-in-law, Ann (Ray) Hamilton, an aunt, and several cousins. A graveside service and interment will be held at Itawamba Memorial Gardens in Fulton, MS. A memorial service will be held at Mayes Ward-Dobbins funeral home chapel at 4:00 on Tuesday, February 5. Jane has requested that donations may be sent to Calvary Children’s Home, 1430 Lost Mountain Rd., Powder Springs, GA 30127 or a Christian children’s home of your choice.
