I read in the MDJ that our intrepid County Commission is considering a system of points awarded to contractors who apply for IMAGE certification. This idea is reminiscent of the question of code enforcement for landlords which was a hot button a few years ago. At that time, one worthy (who shall remain nameless) was pushing for rewards to owners of rental properties who complied with the ordinance, such as, for example, reduction of property taxes. The idea was soon abandoned when a letter to the editor suggested that was like paying motorists for not running red lights or not exceeding the speed limit.
It may be that applying for IMAGE certification is indeed an onerous task which some contractors just hate to do. But so is filing one’s income taxes, or having a root canal. Just because something we have to do is disliked or unpleasant does not mean it should be avoided.
