Ladarius Quintez Gibbs, 21, was arrested Jan. 24 at a residence in College Park on charges of felony armed robbery and carjacking. He remains in the Cobb County Jail without bond.
The second suspect, Derek C. Turner, also of Atlanta, is still on the run. According to Sgt. Dana Pierce with Cobb Police, Turner should be considered armed and dangerous.
The warrant for his arrest accuses him of felony armed robbery, carjacking and possession of a semi-automatic handgun during the commission of a crime.
Gibbs and Turner are accused of taking a woman’s 2012 BMW X5 SUV, a Louis Vuitton purse valued at $3,000 and a wallet valued at $400 at gunpoint in the parking lot of Babies R Us on Cobb Parkway just after 1 p.m. on Jan. 18.
The car was recovered.
“We do still have one on the loose as a result of a police pursuit that went down into Atlanta,” Pierce said. “One of the two was apprehended.”
Pierce said the next step for detectives investigating the case will be for them to work with other metro area agencies to see if similar crimes have occurred in their jurisdictions.
“They will interview the individuals to see if they will give up information to simply clear up those crimes that they may have been a part of so that other agencies can clear those crimes out of the books,” Pierce said.
If there is sufficient evidence, neighboring agencies will then take out arrest warrants for those extra charges.
“They are looking at them as being a part of some situations in Atlanta,” he said.
Anyone with information or a tip on the whereabouts of Turner or the incident is asked to call the Crimes Against Persons Unit at (770) 499-3945.
