On Sunday, Cobb Sheriff Neal Warren announced in this newspaper that he will refuse to enforce the rule of law in relation to gun control, joining the cacophony of other rogue sheriffs who are apparently politicians first and no longer law enforcement officials. Warren and this gang of rebel sheriffs have decided that they can determine which laws are constitutional, can pick and choose which to enforce, and therefore admit they apply the law selectively and unequally depending on their personal biases and whims.
This is common knowledge to those who have been watching him for years and I am thankful he is now openly admitting it. But it is also time for him (and the other sheriffs who admit to this) to also admit that he is really not a law enforcement official, step down and leave law enforcement to the professionals. If he wants to be a politician, let him run for some other office which does not require him to protect and serve all people equally.
It is also time to re-evaluate and re-examine the need for elected law enforcement officials, like sheriffs, at the local level, and to revert to law enforcement professionals rather than politicians in these positions.

What the "rogue" sheriffs are doing is simply fullfilling their oath to protect and defend the tenets of that document, rather than the liberal, Marxist, power-hungry, tyrannical, dictator-like politicians currently squatting in the halls of power. And yes, history will show they are squatting, slouching and slithering their way through a second Alinsky-inspired term, doing damage to our Constitution like no other administration before them and racking up 6 trillion in debt in their first term alone. Locally elected officials are our only hope.
