KENNESAW — A fallen tree at Lewis and Dallas streets in downtown Kennesaw this morning cut power to about 1,200 Georgia Power customers. Utility spokeswoman Carol Boatwright said power is expected to be restored by noon.
Customers affected included the Ben Robertson Community Center on Watts Drive, where students were directed to evacuate.
The tree, with a trunk measuring several feet in diameter, fell on two power lines in front of the music school Harmony House, which was not damaged but lost power.
Office Manager Melissa Bunch said the tree fell sometime before she arrived at the school for its 10 a.m. opening.
Classes were canceled for the day.
Kennesaw Police spokesman Officer Scott Luther said officers were directing traffic at Cobb Parkway at Jiles Road and Watts Drive, about a quarter-mile from downtown.
