MARIETTA - Marietta Police are investigating what they describe as a "serious injury accident" that happened on Franklin Road Monday afternoon.

According to a press release from Officer Dave Baldwin, the Marietta Police Department S.T.E.P. unit is looking into an accident that happened on Franklin Road near Twin Brooks Drive around 3:30 p.m.

"The on-scene investigation revealed that a 1994 Nissan Sentra, operated by Moses Katta, 50, of Marietta, was traveling southbound on Franklin Road," the release states. "For reasons unknown at this time, possibly medically related, (Katta's vehicle) left the roadway and onto the sidewalk."

Katta struck a pedestrian on the sidewalk, 18-year-old Jasmine Harper of Marietta, and both the driver and walker were taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in "critical condition."

The accident remains under investigations and charges are "being evaluated if applicable."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Marietta Officer David Auld at (770) 794-5352.
