Paradocs, whose tagline is “rockin’ for the cure,” is no ordinary band. The local group continues their mission of making a positive difference for causes they support. On Jan. 26, Paradocs rocks for the Haitian Foundation Inc. sponsoring the Haitian Medical Mission.

“We like things that are related to health and medical causes and community causes,” stated Dr. Joe Havlik, an infectious disease physician who co-founded Paradocs with pediatrician Dr. Larry Clements in 1996.

The concert takes place at the Georgia Rib Company at 4930 Davidson Road in Marietta (off Lower Roswell Road near Johnson Ferry Road). Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and music starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person and includes the famous Georgia Rib Co. Buffet.

Havlik said that since the earthquake in 2010, Haiti still feels its devastation.

“The intent (of the Haitian Foundation) is to establish a permanent medical clinic,” he said.

Through the foundation, volunteers travel to rural areas of Haiti and serve people where there are no permanent physicians. They hire doctors to work with them. In a two-week period when Havlik’s daughter Alexandria volunteered with the group, Havlik said they saw more than 2,000 people.

“They asked Paradocs to help out,” Havlik said.

Most of the 12-member band works in the WellStar system or is related to people who work at WellStar. Band members include Dr. Larry Clements co-founder (bass, vocals), Dr. Joe Havlik co-founder (guitar, vocals), David Dasinger (lead guitar, keyboards), George Mitchell (drums, vocals), Donnie Adams (keyboards, vocals), Caroline Kulinski (vocals), Sid Beasley (percussion, vocals), Joey Brown (sound, lighting), Steve Wright (sax, flute, percussion), Brittany Ginn (vocals), Dr. Waldon Garriss (trumpet, percussion), Dr. Alan Zuckerman (keyboards), Victoria Havlik (vocals) and Alexandra Havlik (vocals).

Many of the people involved in the Haitian Foundation are also WellStar employees.

“A majority of the people who are part of this team are Haitian and live in our country. They feel blessed by what has happened to them here. Yet their families have remained in Haiti and lives haven’t gotten better but worse since the earthquake,” Havlik said.

“(The Haitians in our country) feel strong about giving back. They’re giving of their talents and giving back to the community they came from. They’re going back to help the people where they came from,” he added.

“Some of the people involved aren’t Haitian but just people who are interested in stewardship and want to give back to people somehow,” he said.
