On Dec. 22 Jim and Nancy Bodiford and Nita and Ronnie Knighton hosted a couples wedding shower for Michele Haynes and Erik Kurth. The party was held at the Bodiford’s Marietta home that was beautifully decorated for Christmas. Guests enjoyed a delicious menu that included champagne punch, shrimp and beef tenderloin.

Michele and Erik have planned a March 23 wedding at the Whitlock Inn off the Marietta Square.

Calling all gardeners! On Jan. 14 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Gardeners’ Night Out presents the Art of Pruning, It’s all about tools, timing and technique with Cobb County Master Gardener Pam Bohlander at the East Cobb Regional Library, 4880 Lower Roswell Road, Marietta.

The event is sponsored by the Master Gardener Volunteers of Cobb County whose mission is “to advance the horticultural education and practices of its members and to promote knowledge of and interest in gardening to the members and to the public.”

Keheley Elementary School Principal Liz Jackson was recently named one of 2012 winners of the Symetra Heroes in the Classroom Award, sponsored by Symetra in partnership with the National Football League’s Atlanta Falcons. As part of the award the school received a $1,000 donation and Jackson received 2 tickets to the Dec. 16 Atlanta Falcons game against the New York Giants.

The Atlanta Falcons and Symetra first teamed up to sponsor Symetra Heroes in the Classroom in 2010. The community program recognizes Georgia teachers for outstanding leadership and instructional skills. The winners are selected based on their ability to make a real difference in students’ lives; to go above and beyond in their day-to-day responsibilities; and to help students build life skills.
