AUSTELL – Cobb Police say speed and alcohol were likely factors in a car crash early Thursday morning that killed one man and seriously injured three others.
The single-vehicle crash occurred just after 5 a.m. Thursday on South Gordon Road at Songwood Drive in Austell, not far from Interstate 20 and Six Flags Over Georgia.
Investigators say the four men were in a 1991 Saturn SL2 that was eastbound on South Gordon Road. As the road curved to the right, the car crossed the double yellow line and hit the curb, causing the car to spin. It hit a tree before finally stopping in the front yard of a home.
Investigators are not sure which of the men was driving the vehicle or where the others were sitting inside the car.
Michael A. Rogers, 25, of Atlanta, was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene.
Thomas Dawson, 18, of Atlanta, was taken to Atlanta Medical Center with serious injuries.
David C. Shepard Jr., 18, of Austell was ejected from the car and also was taken to Atlanta Medical Center with serious injuries.
Najhel J. Fuller, 19, of Smyrna was ejected from the car and taken to Grady Hospital with serious injuries.
Cobb Police are investigating the crash with Austell Police. Investigators can be reached at (770) 499-3910.
