CCSD worker facing child porn charges

MARIETTA — A Cobb Schools employee was arrested Tuesday on child pornography charges.

Stanley Keith Johnson is accused of producing and receiving child pornography. The U.S. Attorney’s Office declined to elaborate on the accusations.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Johnson is a bus driver, but Cobb Schools spokesman Jay Dillon said he is a field coordinator with the district and has been with Cobb since 1989.

“He was a field coordinator, which is a supervisor of bus routes for a group of schools, and had been since 2004,” Dillon said Thursday afternoon.

He could not say if Johnson was a bus driver before becoming a field coordinator.

Dillon said the district learned about the charges earlier in the week and that Johnson will be fired.

He wouldn’t reveal Johnson’s salary because it is a “personnel matter,” but said all employees undergo background checks.

“(The arrest) has nothing to do with the district or his job with the district … (or) with any schools or his role with the school district, so that’s good to know from our perspective,” Dillon said.

Johnson’s first court appearance is scheduled for this morning before U.S. Magistrate Judge Justin Anand. It is unclear if he has a lawyer.

I worked with Stan also. After hearing about his arrest I was shocked but not surprised. He told me he used to take trips with boys to St. Andrews State Park. Just the boys and him in his truck or camper. I have seen him in a pool with little boys all over him in the water. Knew something was just not right with all of that closeness. So sad. Hope he gets what he deserves 20 years in jail.

Shame on you for not inquiring about that situation and speaking up or just doing something about it! Just a hint, and for future reference, if something does not feel right, it's probably not! Investigate! Go with your gut feeling! Especially when it involves children! Noticed that you say you were not surprised. I assume you are not a parent. Not blaming you but geeze-----

Dillon’s statement that the arrest for PRODUCING child pornography of a (then) current district employee who was (previously) an elementary bus driver for years “has nothing to do with the district” may be true – so far as we know - in the strictly legal and/or semantic sense. But it is disgusting to me that he can so naturally and callously rejoice that it is “good to know from our [CCSD’s] perspective” that this predator’s arrest “has nothing to do with the district”. He carefully wordsmithed his comments to obfuscate Johnson’s previous direct contact with CCSD elementary school kids as a bus driver. It is obvious Dillon must have reviewed the man’s employment history since he confirmed Johnson had been a bus field coordinator “since 2004”. Yet, laughingly, he “could not say if Johnson was a bus driver before becoming a field coordinator.”?!? At a very minimum, his comment “good to know from our [CCSD’s] perspective” demonstrated no concern that CCSD children were in harm’s way for many years, being driven to school by a man now accused of PRODUCING child pornography.

I have been going to the summer day camp since i was in kindergarden.. I had always looked up to him and when my friend told me i was shocked. The man i trusted wasnt who i thought he was. I just keep him in my prayers and hope the lord will still bless him in any way. Maybe he will ask for forgiveness...

Can't believe this. He was my bus diver all through elementary school and he delivered pizza to my house multiple times. Never once would I have thought he would be accused of this!

So very shocking! I worked with Stan at CCSD and also First Baptist Church Summer Day Camp. Never saw any signs or indication of this sort of perversion. At work he was always very responsible and no one would have ever believed he was involved in such behavior. He was well liked by the CCSD Transportation Administrators, and I find it very troubling that Jay Dillon is not willing too be more forthright in his comments about Stans employment. I feel extremely bad for all of his victims, and also his family who I'm sure are as stunned and shocked as everyone else that knew Stan. If he hadn't admitted to this, I would not believe it, so very very sad! :-((

he owned a day care, worked with scouts, worked as a bus driver since 1989, worked in Mableton

First Baptist Summer Camp program,

did a child care program at Milford Baptist

and did field trips for years..............

Yes, I can vouch that this guy worked for FBC Mableton's Summer Camp program. He is still involved in Boy Scouts and is an adult leader in a troop located in Mableton in the Covered Bridge district. A lot of folks are sick to hear of this news - it has been devastating to many people.

shame on you Stan Johnson, you have destroyed children's lives. Shame on you Cobb School system for trying to play stupid on what capacity Stan had,just like them to try to sweep this under the rug. Good trying Jay Dillon. To many people know Stan and know where he drove.

I know for a fact he DID DRIVE a bus for many years for Cobb County as he parked the bus in our neighborhood and it even got vandalized so I am sure there is paperwork somewhere so how can ANYONE state they cannot say for sure if he drove a bus..... shame on you!!! God bless those poor little babies!!

I know he drove a bus for several years, too, because my 3 adult children rode his bus when they were in school. They tell me today that, looking back, they always felt safe on his bus. I remember that they liked him because he was nice to the kids and very soft-spoken. This breaks my heart for the children who have been exploited.

I hope there are no others involved but from what I have heard (take for what it's worth) that this type of person is like drug addicts or alcholholics, they all hang together, so what does that tell us? there will be more arrest.

@friendly web editor, no but it went out to 900 bus drivers. I am retired but still hear from my good friends. I can find one though and mail it to you. What address and who should it be mailed to. I'm sure if you post the above info, you will get quite a few copies. But of course no names

Another feather in Grisham's cap. The intimidation continues in CCSD Transportation on a daily basis. Where is Laura Armstrong to update us on CCSD Transportation issues???? Is there anyone more condescending than Mike Warren the heir apparent to the "Lunch King" Jim Waggoner??

Really Brian, Unless Grisham had knowledge of this or anyone else you named, then this is not the place for that. Stan was hired under another director and worked for other supervisors long before Grisham came. so take this where it belongs.

I use to work for CCSD Brian you are absolutely right. Intimidation was to much for me. I am sick to here this. I worked under Stan at Floyd. He was ok. I personally did not like him but I did not know why. He was always nice to the kids. But like all things the truth will evidently come out. Even the truth about Grisham too.
