SMYRNA — Cobb Police are investigating two separate armed robberies that happened Thursday. In one attack, a woman was hit in the head with a handgun but refused medical treatment.
In that attack, police say two men approached a woman in the parking lot of Wellington Point Apartments, at 555 Manor Terrace, about 9:30 p.m. Thursday and demanded her purse and cellphone. When the woman did not respond quickly enough, one of the men struck her in the head with a handgun, and the men then fled in a older model Honda. The man armed with a semiautomatic handgun was described as black, about 5 feet, 2 inches tall and wearing a red and white striped knit cap. The other man was described as a darkcomplected black man, about five feet tall, and a low fade hair cut. He was wearing a T-shirt with D.A.R.E. in red letters.
Earlier Thursday, police investigated an armed robbery at the Walgreens on Roswell Road at East Piedmont Road.
Police say a man armed with a handgun entered the drug store shortly before 4:30 p.m. Thursday and requested merchandise that was behind the counter. When the clerk put the items on the counter, the man opened his jacket to display a handgun, then demanded the merchandise and fled from the store. It is not known whether the man fled on foot or in a vehicle. The robber is described as a white man about five feet, 9 inches tall, in his late teens or early 20s. He had black hair and a slight moustache, and was wearing a black hooded jacket and blue jeans. Anyone with information about either of these armed robberies can contact police at (770) 499-3945.
