DUNWOODY — A man shot dead by Dunwoody Police has been identified as 34-year-old Bradley Dean Almy of east Cobb.

Almy was shot dead after a chase Wednesday evening, according to a Dunwoody Police news release. Police said an officer saw Almy driving recklessly through the parking lot of 41 Perimeter Center East, where Dunwoody’s city hall and police department are located. After an officer tried to stop Almy, a chase started, in which police said Almy refused to stop and drove recklessly through parking lots and streets, disregarding the safety of pedestrians and others.

The vehicle rammed several cars at the intersection of Ashford-Dunwoody Road and Perimeter Center East, police said. Two uniformed officers on foot approached Almy’s vehicle and attempted to stop him from fleeing, while Almy continued to move back and forth, striking other cars. Police said that, fearing for the safety of drivers, pedestrians and officers, police Sgt. Jason Dove fired a shot at Almy, but Almy struck additional cars and continued through traffic onto Perimeter Center East.

Almy then struck a light pole in front of Savannah Park Apartments and was stopped, police said.

After officers administered first aid to Almy, DeKalb County Fire/EMS arrived and transported the suspect to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, where he was pronounced dead.

According to Cobb Sheriff’s Office booking reports, Almy has been arrested at least twice in Cobb for misdemeanor driving under the influence, including an arrest in June 2012 at the intersection of Roswell and Sewell Mill roads. Along with the DUI charge, that arrest also included misdemeanor charges for speeding, making an improper lane change, improperly signaling, having an open alcohol container, not having a driver’s license and attempting to elude.

In 2007, Almy was arrested for misdemeanor DUI at Interstate 75 and Windy Hill Road. He was also charged with misdemeanors for no proof of insurance and having a suspended registration.

On Thursday, no one answered the door at the home on O’Shea Lane in east Cobb listed as Almy’s in police booking reports. Calls to Almy’s phone number went straight to voicemail.

Dove, who has served with the Dunwoody Police Department since it was created in 2009, was placed on paid administrative leave, which is in accordance with department procedures, police said. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting Dunwoody Police in the investigation.
