MARIETTA — A Florida teenager with Marietta ties will be buried in Cobb County on Saturday.

Jordan Russell Davis, 17, was a high school student in Jacksonville where he lived with his father, but his mother and stepfather, Curtis and Lucia McBath, reside in Marietta.

Michael David Dunn, 45, of South Patrick Shores, Fla., is accused of shooting the teenager just before 7:40 p.m. Friday in a dispute over loud music, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Homicide Lt. Rob Schoonover said.

A viewing will be for Davis between 6 and 9 p.m. Friday at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory, 2480 Macland Road in Marietta. The funeral service is Saturday at noon at Trinity Chapel Church of God, 4665 Macland Road, in Powder Springs, and a graveside ceremony will follow at Kennesaw Memorial Park, 1306 Whitlock Ave. in Marietta.

A service for the young man was conducted Wednesday in Florida.

In a press conference Monday, Schoonover said Davis was in a parked vehicle with three other people at a gas station when Dunn parked nearby and complained about the teens’ loud music.

“Our suspect made a comment for them to turn the music down. Evidently there were words exchanged between (Davis) sitting in the backseat of the vehicle, and our suspect for whatever reason produced a weapon and started firing into the vehicle,” Schoonover said.

Schoonover said there were around nine shots fired into the vehicle, but only Davis was injured. He was taken to Shands Hospital, where he died.

Witnesses gave police Dunn’s tag number, saying he and his girlfriend drove off after the shooting.

Dunn had reportedly been in town for his son’s wedding and went back to his home in Brevard County, which is about 160 miles from where the shooting occurred, after hearing about the incident on the news Saturday.

He was taken into custody in Brevard County and pleaded not guilty to murder and attempted murder charges on Monday. He remains in the Duval County Jail without bond.

Police could not say if Dunn had a concealed weapons permit at the time of the shooting, but Schoonover said the suspect had owned the handgun that killed Davis for a “long period of time.”

Dunn’s girlfriend will not face charges.

Dunn’s attorney, Robin Lemonidis of Melbourne, Fla., did return calls for comment by press time.
