MARIETTA — Marietta already has a large fan base, but thanks to CSS, viewers throughout the southeast will be able to watch the Blue Devils play at Lovejoy in the second round of the Class AAAAAA state playoffs Friday night.

The game will be broadcast in the 12-state regional southeast network.

The Blue Devils have a rich football tradition and coach Scott Burton said it will be nice to share that with the region.

“The Marietta community is proud of anything that represents success within the community,whether it be academic success or the new auditorium at the high school or a football team,” said Burton. “Anytime we within the community get to shine a spotlight on the community, I think it’s good. For our program, it will let people around the Southest, who may have heard about Marietta, a chance to see us. And that is big for the community.

It will also be a treat for fans who are not able to make the trek to Lovejoy or who are out of town following Thanksgiving.

“Maybe people traveling can set their DVRs and still watch the game if they can’t make it in person.”

Burton said the broadcast of the game doesn’t change my from his point of view or from the players. It just means a few extra timeouts squeezed in for commercial breaks.

“At this time of year the games seem to take on a great level of significance,” said Burton. “It’s our job to make sure they remain what it is. Focusing on each play and not making the moment any bigger than it is.”

In addition to the game, quarterback Anthony Jennings will be featured on the station’s “In the Huddle” program, which will air tonight at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday at 9:30 a.m., and Friday, both prior to the game and immediately following it.

Jennings, who has committed to LSU, was 9-for-19 passing for three touchdowns in the Blue Devils’ first round victory. He also had 11 carries for 111 yards and another touchdown. On the season he has passed for 2,178 yards and 24 touchdowns and ran the ball 719 yards for 10 touchdowns.
