CANTON — Cherokee County’s top state legislator is standing by his decision to host an educational meeting on the dangers of Agenda 21.

After a video of an October session on Agenda 21 at the state Capitol was sent to the media Tuesday, Sen. Majority Leader Chip Rogers (R-Woodstock) said the meeting was requested by constituents and won’t be the last one he intends to support.

Agenda 21 is a non-binding, voluntary U.N. resolution dating back two decades that encourages sustainable growth, including high-density, urban core development. Some decry it as being a threat to property rights and rural values.

Rogers distributed the “U.N. Agenda 21 Information Session” invitation to senators, which said the meeting would address: “how regionalism and public private partnerships are tearing down constitutionally limited self-government and free market economics.”

Additionally, during the 2011-12 regular session, Rogers co-sponsored failed Senate Resolution 730 to “recognize destructive and insidious nature” of Agenda 21.

“Our office was contacted by a group of constituents and asked for help obtaining a room and notifying senators of an educational meeting on Agenda 21,” Rogers said in an email to the Tribune on Wednesday. “There have been a number of meetings held at the Capitol the last couple years on this issue, including one during the last session.”

Rogers said his office works to help any constituent group wishing to educate senators on policy concerns.

“This is not the first time our office has facilitated this type of request and won’t be the last, I am sure,” Rogers said.

The video release by progressive non-profit group Better Georgia has come under scrutiny by some Cherokee residents and caught the attention of Atlanta media.

Linda Flory, a political activist from Ball Ground, said she does not think taxpayers should have paid to host the meeting or to have the senators attend.

“Any (senator) that attended received taxpayer money for being there,” Flory said, as senators can receive per diem reimbursement for their attendance at such meetings. “I don’t think that was a useful outlet for our tax dollars. I think its ludicrous that our senators are involved in listening to any kind of theory on that.”

The 52-minute video from the session includes a video presentation about Agenda 21, a plan allegedly driven by the United Nations to take over privately owned property through land use ordinances and rezoning passed by local governments.

In the video, former member of the Georgia Tea Party Field Searcy leads the presentation warning against regional governance as a means to carry out Agenda 21.

The video cites the failed Ball Ground Recycling deal that’s left Cherokee County citizens on the hook for $18 million as an example

“This is another exmple of (public private partnerships) that has gone south,” Searcy told the audience of state senators. “…We’re trying to engage citizens to be aware of this but we need your help to protect the citizens from getting involved in this kind of thing.”

Seth Clark, a volunteer with Better Georgia, said no one at the meeting took issue with him recording the tape for about an hour.

“At about 52 minutes in, Sen. Rogers’ staff came in and asked me to leave and were extremely abrupt,” Clark said. “I turned my camera off and didn’t make a fuss.”

In his presentation, Searcy shows a clip of political consultant Dick Morris, who says President Barack Obama opposes the suburbs.

“He wants to force everyone into the cities from whence our ancestors fled,” Morris said in the clip.

Searcy also says in the video Agenda 21 is pushed by a mind control technique, called the Delphi Technique, which was developed by the Rand Corp. during the Cold War.

“Basically the goal of the Delphi technique is to lead a targeted group of people to a pre-determined outcome…” Searcy said.

Searcy has lost favor with the state Tea Party for his extreme views.

On April 15, the Georgia Tea Party passed a resolution requesting Searcy resign from the board for reasons including “discussing so-called ‘birther’ and ‘truther’ theories” during volunteer meetings and “promoting issues and beliefs derived from conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.”

Clark said Searcy was “very explicit” about blaming the Atlanta Regional Commission and Georgia Chamber of Commerce for entering into public-private partnerships.

“(He said) they were eating away at our freedoms as Americans,” Clark said.

Clark said the intention of waiting to release the tape was so it did not get lost among the national election news.

“The most upsetting thing is (Searcy) was invited to the Capitol and Georgia state dollars were used,” Clark said.

In a Wednesday release by Better Georgia, a copy of the slideshow is presented, most notably a slide comparing President Barack Obama’s intiatives to Joseph Stalin’s Five Year Plan and Mao Tse Tung’s Great Leap Forward, citing both ended in famine and death.

“There’s no way to contextualize this stuff,” Clark said.

Flory also said it’s an “embarrassment” that the four senators who represent Cherokee County all attended the meeting, including Sen. Jack Murphy (R-Cumming), whose district no longer includes Cherokee after Jan. 1, Cherokee’s newest senator, Barry Loudermilk (R-Cassville) and Sen. John Albers (R-Roswell).

Other meeting attendees included Sen. Buddy Carter (R-Pooler), Bill Heath (R-Bremen), Sen. Butch Miller (R-Gainesville) and, according to Clark, members of Georgia Tea Party and legislative staffers.

Woodstock Mayor Donnie Henriques, who serves on the ARC’s advisory committee on aging, said he was unfamiliar with the video and the issue as a whole and did not want to comment.

Henriques cast the tie-breaking vote at Woodstock City Council’s Sept. 24 meeting when the council voted to amend zoning ordinances to add a chapter of form-based code.

The original proposal was opposed by Ridgewalk Holdings LLC, the company that owns much of the land subject to change and includes the slated Outlet Shoppes of Atlanta. Former Gov. Roy Barnes has filed suit on behalf of Ridgewalk Holdings LLC claiming the zoning vote unconstitutional.

Henriques said Wednesday he has never heard from Rogers on the issue.

She was right. Do the research before you mock someone you unimaginative simpleton. For anyone who easily disregards the threat posed by Agenda 21 and wants to leave an ignorant & uniformed comment, know that your only declaring yourself a fool. So like she said, google it!

There was a crazy lady behind us in a restaurant just a couple of days ago telling everyone around her to "find out the truth, quick making fun of Glenn Beck, and google Agenda 21!"

Good grief you people are nuts.

The folks that support this Anti Agenda 21 movement need t some reading outside of the paranoid bubble they live in. The entire movement has been manufactured by the Koch brothers, as well as several other billionaires tied to big oil. it is not a "grass roots" movement. In fact, in most political circles, it's openly called an "astro turf" movement....a manufactured grass roots movement in which unwitting extreme leaning folks are used as pawns and mouth pieces.

Agenda 21 is not a treaty, it is not a law, it is simply a statement concerning measures that can be made to help alleviate some of the aspects of pollution and dependency on fossil fuels. You know who is against that? The rich guys that sell the fossil fuels. Do some reading (not just Glenn beck) and you'll see the Koch brothers started this faux movement to stop bike lanes in California. They found a group of easily outraged and uniformed folks (read tea party) and are using them....and laughing all the way to the bank.

Have you been to the United Nations Website on Agenda 21? Have you read the material on their document library site? (United Nations Library)Have you read any of the United Nations Material from the 1992 RIO Conference or the Document commissioned by the UN and written by GRO Brundtland who was the VP of the World Socialist Party?? Who happened to coin the phrase Sustainable Development? You care to debate me on facts right from the UN? Be a good idea that you did read up a bit. The UN site, there you will find facts. I think it was Einstein who said "Condemnation before investigation is the height of ignorance". Something along those lines. Now before you try and sink your fangs in me. Go and verify what I said here, and please, do take my advise. Read up. I am sure your a great person and well meaning. Just read up.

o save America. We have one last, final chance to stop Barack Obama. One final chance.

What is this final chance? Will the Republicans step up to the plate and do what is necessary?

Barack Obama has not yet been re-elected president.

Yes, the election is over – but remember, a presidential election in America is not by popular vote. We vote for the candidate,

but what we are really doing is voting for the electors who will meet on the Monday after the second Wednesday in December.

That is when the actual re-election of the president occurs.

Is there a way to stop this?

Yes, there is.

And the best part – this is totally constitutional.

The 12th Amendment of the Constitution as well as Article II of the Constitution govern the Electoral College.

According to the 12th Amendment, for the Electoral College to be able to select the president, it must have a quorum of two-thirds of the states voting. If enough states refuse to participate, the Electoral College will not have a quorum. If the Electoral College does not have a quorum or otherwise cannot vote or decide, then the responsibility for selecting the president and vice president devolves to the Congress.

The House of Representatives selects the president and the Senate selects the vice president.

Since the Republicans hold a majority in the House, presumably they would vote for Mitt Romney, and the Democrats in the Senate would vote for Joe Biden for vice president.

Wow. You really don't like democracy, free elections, the Constitution, and the American people, do you? Mitt Romney lost the election so now you want the Electoral College to absolve itself of its constitutional obligations and let the Republican-controlled house pick the presidential candidate who lost the popular vote and the Electoral College vote? That is not American democracy and will soon lead to the end of the Republic as we know it. You are no American patriot, you are a dangerous fool.

To those who blindly support the global warming/cooling/climate change hoax and who blindly support Agenda 21/SD 21:

I have no argument with your intentions. I think it's safe to say that none of us want the continued destruction of this earth by the global corporations. However, the goals and tactics used by the Agenda 21 crowd are entirely unlawful and will, at some point, come 'round and bite YOU in the behind. Please care enough to fully and carefully investigate this issue. They are destroying this country and its once inviolate freedoms--freedoms that allowed your parents to live well and their parents before short, the reason that YOU have the right, so far, to speak out and be relatively free.

If I am reading correctly, Linda Flory sounds like she is rooting for us all to be poisoned and live in stacked boxes. A waste of taxpayer money to look into this? I think Ball Ground should fire her and replace with a human being. It doesn't take a genius to see through Agenda 21. RETAKE THE REPUBLIC FROM THE EUGENICISTS! INFOWARS . COM

I've been looking into some of the 'theories' the A21 folks push. The Kook-Aid is still in my cup, but I admit there's a lot of really bad STINK out there if you do your homework.

What I'm curious about are all these angry, pedestal-having commenters who are so certain there's nothing to worry about. You do a great job of making confident noise, but I haven't seen anything intelligent from y'all yet.

Anyone have ideas WHY we're betrothed to this UN "agenga", through Republican and Democrat Administrations? What's a more reasonable interpretation of it, if not as extreme as Alex Jones would suggest?

As someone who's doing the homework, and getting a little worried, I can't decide if you sound ignorantly arrogant or arrogantly ignorant.

Come on...drop some wisdom, eh?

There is nothing wrong with self-determination - by a person or a city or a state. That's what makes us different. I thought Liberals valued diversity? Why do they want the whole world to be homogenic under centralized control?

I, as a taxpayer, have to pay for this hooey! "Conservatives" are so concerned about people being on the government dole, yet they waste our money on this crap. At least the looneys ought to have to pay for it themselves.

In 1992 Nancy Pelosi introduced Agenda 21 on the House floor , there is video . So for those like Rastas T Yuma , your ignorance is counted on by those pushing this Agenda . The Man Made Global warming lie is the basis they are using to implement this Agenda . Read everything about Agenda 21 and you will find everything Obama is doing is linked to Agenda 21 . This is both Parties trying to bring Agenda 21 control about , or at least the establishment of both Parties .

Agenda 21 was unveiled in 1992 during the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), commonly known as the Rio Earth Summit, where more than 178 nations adopted Agenda 21, and pledged to evaluate progress made in implementing the plan every five years thereafter. President George H. W. Bush was the signatory for the United States.

Agenda 21 is a United Nations initiative that was introduced 20-some years ago. It is NOT binding on the United States in any shape, form or fashion. It was signed by GW Bush but NEVER made law. People, get real--this is another example of wasting our money and trying to scare people into doing things that will hurt our country. PLEASE do research--this is not law and never will be. Our sec. of state and United States delegates walked out of the last UN meeting over this. If it hasn't happened in 20 years, you can bet it's not going to happen. It's a lot of scare tactics and conspiracy theorists behind this. PLEASE read about this. Why do you think GA Sen. Chip Rogers really resigned? He made a fool of himself over this and his fellow senators forced him out!
November 16, 2012
GOP needs to keep doing things like this, it totally helps the democratic/progressive cause in so many ways! You'll never win nationally again as you are.

Thanks senators, for wasting tax payer dollars, and for being totally and undeniably CRAZY.

Time to look in the mirror. Conspiracy theories are the best - they let you know who still lives in their mom's basement with a tin foil hat on. Go outside, live your life, and stop with the Obama nonsense. You lost - GOP turning more and more into whine country.

SOOO glad to know Rogers knows about Agenda 21!

End the UN!
November 15, 2012
Rogers needs to get a real job, he's obviously had to resort to the far fringes for the attention he needs.

And to those of you who actually believe this swill about the big, bad Agenda 21, get a life. Put your passion into something that will actually help people. Donate your time to a non-profit, for instance.

You don't have any "special knowledge" and your disjointed and tortured logic and argumentation to support your conspiracy is pitiful, not to mention BAD for our communities.

Thank you to Chip Rogers and the other senators who participated in this information session. This is no conspiracy theory. Other states like Alabama implemented a law against it. If you are a Democrat, find out more at

The Republican Party published a statement against Agenda 21 at the recent convention. If you look in your county 2030 plans, you might be shocked to find the words "United Nations" in some of those plans. It is being implemented through federal funds with mandates. HUD, Smart Growth, Livable Cities Initiative and others are trying to change our zoning and wasting our tax dollars on such things as "sidewalks to nowhere." Please read all you can. Get involved & speak out against this plague. Our politicians took an oath to protect our country against all enemies foreign and domestic. They need to honor that oath.

I wish more elected officials would get educated about Agenda 21 and what a threat it is to our Constitution and our way of life here. You don't have to wear a tin foil hat to talk about it out in the open any is a documented INTERNATIONAL AGENDA.

I applaud ANY elected official that steps out of the generally accepted box to look at the truth of things. And more and more, people are waking up to this "Agenda 21" - and if you look around, you will see it being implemented right under our noses. It is VERY MUCH ingrained in many levels of our government, all the way down to the local level.

It will take courage to speak out against it to stop it..

So let's see: the Georgia State Senate Majority Leader hosted a meeting led by someone too crazy for the Georgia Tea Party that included a video clip by that eminent politcal analyist Dick "Never Right About Anything" Morris (just out of curiousity, who paid his fee?) that consisted of paranoid delusions about a hoary, non-binding U.N. document that gives advice about how not to completely deplete the environment. And you wonder why people around the nation and the world mock this state?
November 15, 2012
You people need to get some help. Paranoid schizophrenia is not something that should be left untreated.
November 15, 2012
Linda Flory is obviously in the tank for A21. She will learn soon enough that she is being used as a "useful idiot".

If ANYthing should use taxpayer money, it is the education of the people and our legislators about what A21 really is and how it is being implemented.

Also, since the Mayor of Woodstock doesn't know anything about it, I suggest he contact Mr Searcy and get with the program.
November 15, 2012
Good job, Chip. Keep up the good work. The United States was established to be free of foreign government. The UN is an anti-American organization.
November 15, 2012
enemies become allies to defeat a mutual enemy. That would be the leftist atheists/communist party USA and radical muslims. They would be primarily against Christians in America but also in other countries.

November 15, 2012
There is nothing "alleged" about Agenda 21. It is a 300 page, published UN document that GHW Bush signed us onto in 1992. The Senate never ratified it. Bill Clinton began implementation through executive order.

If you will just READ it, you will see that it is nothing less than a plan for a world-wide, socialist government, carried out by the UN.

Accordng to A21, "Private property is not sustainable because it contributes to social injustice." Paved roads; grazing herds; automobiles and higher education are all "not sustainable". (You can read why in the document.)

The whole thing is predicated on saving the environment so as to gain popularity.

"Delphi Technique", as used by the A21 promoters, is not mind control. It is a means by which a "consensus" is acheived, within a group discussion, by designing the outcome through a series of questions that that lead to the desired outcome.

You have a man who is becoming aware of what A21 REALLY means and he should be commended for his willingness to stand up.

What a mingling of morons who are 'citing' Agenda21. Thank you Internet, because now anyone who would like to view the document these nuts are citing can do so; just not on any UN website. Because the 'official' document they're citing is found on Rightwing, conspiracy sites. It's a shame that a democracy has to live with a certain percentage of the ill educated and insane as its elected representatives. It's even sadder when they clump together and reveal their ignorance and lack of sanity by attending a meeting on a spurious 'movement'. What's next: A meeting on the UFOs hovering invisibly over the Washington Monument? Are taxpayers going to pay for that as well? Was the outcome of this meeting successful, in that the GA Natl Guard has been notified and even now encircles the UN Building? Seriously, even if aliens are invading, what do the 'honorable' GOP leaders of GA intend to do, bring their homemade cannons to bear? Ludicrous.
