Officials say Tuesday an autopsy remains pending for the unidentified woman who later died at a hospital. Authorities initially estimated the woman’s weight was 500 pounds when she was rescued last week from her Macomb County apartment.
Prosecutors are expected to review the case.
Warren Police Commissioner Jere Green tells the Detroit Free Press the woman "should have been getting care that she did not get."
Investigators believe the woman was bedridden for more than a year. She had bedsores and was found in her own waste. Bugs and fecal matter were found throughout the apartment north of Detroit.
