With perhaps its finest defensive performance of the season, Walker held Kings Ridge Christian to just six points and 72 yards of total offense in a 24-6 victory Friday night.

The Wolverinces set the tone with a blocked punt by Mike Ramsay.

“The defense playing like that really helps the offense,” said Wolverine coach John East. “We sort of have a saying that if the defense can give us two scores, that will always help our offense. So you have to give them at least one score for blocking a punt and setting us up inside the 10.”

In addition to the blocked punt, Ramsay accounted for 5.5 tackles. Mitchell Boylan and Colin Mitchell were also key to the defense with five tackles each, while Austin Walker narrowly missed his sixth interception of the season.

“We are definitely continuing to improve,” said East. “The defense is getting sharper and sharper I think.”

With a solid defense behind it, Walker’s offense was able to go to work.

Patrick McPherson’s 1-yard carry put the Wolverines up 7-0 midway through the first quarter and less than three minutes later Evan Kasian would double the score with a 81-yard run. Jack Johnson, who also connected for a 24-yard field goal in the fourth quarter, was good on both point after attempts.

Walker added a final score with 4:30 remaining in the game, when Bradley Moore made a 16-yard touchdown run.

Kasian led Walker with 172 yards on 25 carries and a touchdown.
