I would like to commend and thank the Cobb County Commission for refusing the Alcohol License to the Walmart, located on Powder Springs Road near the East-West Connector. It is refreshing to see our elected officials standing up under pressure and doing the right thing, and respect the property of a church.
We have watched over the past few years as little by little, alcohol is now being either served or sold on the majority of our streets where businesses are located. I live in Smyrna, off Concord Road one mile from South Cobb Drive. In that distance, we have two restaurants, one nightclub and three service stations where alcohol can be served or sold. Also the Kroger on the corner of Concord and South Cobb Drive, which opened less than a year ago, has a very long aisle which is devoted to nothing but alcoholic beverages. That aisle in my opinion, is the most impressive one in the store. Whatever one’s desires are, I would think that Kroger can fill those needs on that aisle. All of these businesses except one are open seven days each week and Kroger is open 24/7.
All of the businesses listed above are interspersed along the way with a few homes that have survived the business encroachment.
Again, thank you commissioners for doing the right thing.
