The vote was 4-1, with only Chairman Tim Lee in support of the sales. County ordinances prohibit sales of package alcohol within 600 feet of churches and schools, and the Walmart on Barrett Parkway near the East-West Connector is just over 200 feet from the front door of Pine Grove Baptist Church.
The church has been there for decades, and the Walmart has been open a few years. The county’s license review board had recommended approval of the sales permit.

All reasonable measures should be taken to prevent Baptists from having easy access to beer, wine or liquor. I agree with the pastor that allowing people of the moral character of his flock to buy alcohol could only have the worst consequences. The public good has been served by the commission's decision.

3.Baptists do not recognize each other in the liquor store."
There are something like 6 Walmarts within 8 miles of this area - we didn't need this one or the clientele that wound up migrating with it. Another suburb bites the dust - thanks Walmart. This is why I take my money to Costco.
