MARIETTA — Led by Evan Kasian’s 160 yards rushing and two touchdowns, Walker improved to 5-0 for the first time in school history, defeating Mount Pisgah 35-6.

At 5-0, the Wolverines have put themselves in good position heading into the second half of the schedule. They play three games on the road — against Fellowship Christian, King’s Ridge Christian and Mount Paran Christian — which have a combined record of 5-10. The only remaining game at home prior to the region play-in game is against 3-2 Whitefield Academy.

The Patriots took an early lead, but it soon became a game that the Wolverines’ homecoming crowd could sit back and enjoy.

Quarterback Cameron Bloebaum completed a 21-yard pass to Kevin Bray for Walker’s first touchdown of the night, and when Mitch Van Den Eynde connected on the extra point, the Wolverines had the lead for good.

“I don’t worry until the game is over and we have fewer points than the other team,” Walker coach John East said. “We knew they had good size, but we have good size so we matched up well.”

Kasian scored the first of his two touchdowns on the night later in the quarter on a 5-yard run. And when Van Den Eynde connected on a 35-yard field goal midway through the second quarter, the Wolverines would take a 16-6 lead into halftime.

Walker closed the third quarter on the Patriots’ 1-yard line, and the Wolverines scored quickly to start the fourth as Patrick McPherson ran the ball in for a touchdown to increase the lead to 23-6.

Kasian would add his second touchdown run of the night, this one from 14-yard out with 9:11 to play to make the lead 29-6, and McPherson would close the scoring with a touchdown run 3 minutes later. McPherson finished with nine carries for 38 yards and two touchdowns.
