Niagara County lawmakers voted Tuesday to lease 28,000 square feet of storage space in Newfane. Many county records are currently stored at a facility in Lockport that was largely abandoned 10 years ago.
County Clerk Wayne Jagow told lawmakers the valuable records are in danger of being lost to time and destroyed by water and other elements. The new humidity-controlled facility meets state standards for their storage. The county will pay nearly $125,000 to lease the new space.
