Kendall Crute took a liking to playing the first home night game in school history by rushing for 135 yards and three touchdowns and added a 100-yard interception return for a touchdown to lead the Eagles to a 47-7 victory over Cross Keys on Friday.
It only took Crute 7 minutes to find the end zone the first time when he scored on a 41-yard run.
“We condition so much in practice that it’s mind over matter (with long runs),” Pruitt said.
Cross Keys quarterback Oluwatomi Adeday threw two interceptions in the first half of the game that led to touchdowns for the Eagles.
Pruitt intercepted a pass by the Indians’ Adeday in their end zone and ran 100 yards for the Eagles’ third touchdown. Then in the second quarter Crute ran 94 yards for another touchdown for a 28-0 lead.
“(I was) just helping the team out, helping us get our first win under the lights,” Crute said. “It was a pretty big accomplishment as a team and as an individual.”
The effort was appreciated by coach Harry Miles.
“The guys played hard in the first half,” North Cobb Christian’s coach Harry Miles said. “We got some things obviously to fix on special teams.
The Eagles’ special teams had bad snaps, fumbles by the holder and the Eagles’ kicker Andrew Knuckolls missing the ball during his kicks. But, Knuckolls was able to recover one of the fumbles by his holder and turned it into a 2-point conversion.
Cross Keys finally got on the board when Patrick Huff returned a second-half punt return for a 75-yard touchdown.
