Cathy Reynolds and Ann Johnson are “Moms on a Mission.” In January, the two Marietta neighbors in Charlton Forge subdivision started the group that assists a different charity each month.

“Given the economy, we felt very blessed and wanted to give back. We wanted to give to those in need,” Reynolds said. “My friend in Kentucky started a Moms on a Mission there. I wanted to do it down here so we can help other people in the Marietta area.”

Each month, the moms chose a different charity to support. Through email and fliers, they inform their neighbors of the monthly charity and set a day to accept donations at the neighborhood clubhouse for items needed by the charity such as food, clothing or school supplies.

“We look around and we see the way people are suffering now with the economy. We have homes. We have good food, and our kids go to good schools,” Reynolds said. “We feel like it’s our obligation to help those who are less fortunate.”

The moms have helped numerous charities such as Cobb County Animal Shelter, Hickory Hills Elementary School, St. Vincent de Paul, MUST Ministries, Sheltering Grace, and Wellspring Treasures. Though most of the charities chosen are local, the moms have also helped international charities such as Soles4Souls.

“We are very grateful to our subdivision. They have been very receptive. There has been a great outpouring from our neighbors,” Reynolds said. “We just hope each month more and more people will want to contribute.”

Moms on a Mission sets an example for other neighborhoods. She said, “We’re just two moms on a mission. We just hope our mission to give back to others will spread and other people will feel led by what we’re doing.”
