KENNESAW — North Cobb Christian School sophomore Anna Tucker is described as a “T-shirt and jeans girl,” but this month she’s jumping into the fashion world for a worthy cause.

Tucker is organizing a fashion show to raise money for Wellspring Living, a Tyrone-based nonprofit that provides treatment and programs to victims of sex abuse and exploitation.

The fashion show is scheduled at 4 p.m. Sept. 22 at NorthStar Church, 3413 Blue Springs Road, Kennesaw. Admission to the public is free. However, donations of small household items are requested.

“They give women hope, which is something that seemed really neat to me,” Tucker said of Wellspring Living. “I thought this would be a great way as a teenager that I could make a difference in my community and help fight human trafficking.”

In 2001, Wellspring Living was formed to help survivors confront childhood sexual abuse and exploitation through advocacy, education and treatment programs.

It also operates volunteer staffed resale boutiques that specialize in new and gently used clothing and housewares, including Kennesaw Wellspring Treasures, located in the Marshalls and TJ Maxx shopping center at 425 Barrett Parkway in Kennesaw.

The models in the fashion show will be girls from local high schools, as well as a few moms, said Tucker. The clothing that will be showcased has been donated by members of NorthStar Church. Items that are not sold in a backroom at the show will be donated to Kennesaw Wellspring Treasures.

“All of the money that we make there will go directly to Wellspring,” said Tucker, 15.

Tucker, who volunteers at Kennesaw Wellspring Treasures, said she didn’t have a fundraising goal but would love to raise $1,000.

Tucker has been active in NCCS’s Beta Club, student government, cheerleading squad and served as a school ambassador. At NorthStar, she participates annually in the church’s LEAP Student Mission Camp that performs volunteer work locally. Tucker also has competed in the Miss Georgia’s Outstanding Teen pageant. She is the 2012 Miss Cherokee Rose Outstanding Teen.

Tom Tucker and Suzanne Pearce-Tucker said they couldn’t be prouder of their daughter and younger son, Thomas.

“I just think we’re blessed all of the way around,” said Suzanne as she fought back tears. “She and my son both are neat kids. Their school does a lot to promote our children to get involved.”
