MARIETTA — Marietta Police on Monday arrested a man wanted on car theft charges and who is also a person of interest in a possible kidnapping and homicide in Florida.

Officers were dispatched to the Ramada Inn off Delk Road about 8:30 p.m. Monday to meet with a victim of an apparent kidnapping. There they met with the suspect’s wife, who told them she and her children, ages 1 and 2, had just fled from her husband, Thomas Michael Heath, 34, of Orange County, Fla.

The mother said her husband kidnapped them at knife point from Orange County several days ago and that they had been on the run ever since. But when their car, which was police said was stolen in Florida, broke down in the middle of I-75 near Delk Road, it was impounded by police, she said. The woman said she and her children went to the McDonald’s at the intersection of Delk Road and I-75, where they were able to escape from her husband.

The woman told police she suspected her husband was on the run because he committed a murder in Orange County.

Marietta Police arrested Thomas Heath near the Ramada Inn without incident. Detectives from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office were contacted and arrived in Marietta to conduct their investigation with the assistance of the Marietta Detectives Division.

Heath has an outstanding warrant for Auto Theft through Orange County, Fla.
